Memory on iBook G4

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong category. I am new to the OS X community and just recently bought a iBook G4 1.33GHz with 256MB memory. On Apple.com, it says that the

"Standard memory on iBook is 256MB of DDR266 SDRAM built-in. Expand memory up to 1.25GB of RAM by using the SO-DIMM slot, which can accommodate up to one 1GB SO-DIMM memory chip."

Now, I was looking on eBay and I saw that I could buy (2) 1GB memory sticks for the iBook. Apple says that I can only hold up to 1.25GB [256 +1024], but people are selling (2) 1GB sticks .... so shouldn't the max be 2GB or is the 1.25GB the max the iBook can read? I'm very confused and could use some help. I'm not going to buy from eBay, just want to show what I am talking about.

You can only add 1 stick. i have a 12" ibook g4 and i am using the 1gb pc2100 sodimm Kingmax ram from newegg. its great and inexpensive too.

Thank you for your response. I was under the impression that there are 2 slots and one is occupied by the factory 256MB and the other slot was empty for expansion. Turns out there is only one slot and the 256MB was "built-in" to the computer itself.

Does it have to be Apple memory, or can memory from my HP laptop work? The HP memory I have was from circuitcity. I have been using Google, but I cannot find a good tutorial in finding iBook memory.

I really appreciate all the help I receive from this community.

I would double check that the specs are the same (PC2100 DDR SODIMM 200-pin)

There's no such thing as Apple memory. RAM is standard with Macs and PCs.

I installed the memory from my old HP laptop, the 512MB 2700 SO-DIMM 200 pin, but the iBook was not able to find it. I went to Apple Menu>About This Mac> and it just said 256MB Built in so I clicked More Info>Hardware>Memory and DIMM1/J7 was empty. I made sure the stick was inserted correctly, but it did not work. Does it matter if my HP took the memory on a certain side[front side up], but on the iBook I had to flip the memory[back side up]?

I'm thinking of just shelling out for new memory, but it would be awesome if I could use the HP memory.

I wouldn't expect it to work, pc2100 is what is needed.
