[help]Cube animation for fast user switching not working...

Why not? I have a mac mini, coudl that be the reason? I coudln't see why it wouldn't be able to do it.

Can you give more details? Did you enable fast user switching under Prefs?

maybe it's caused by the lack of RAM, I saw the same problem on MacNN's forum a few days before.

How much RAM do you have?

If you have under 256MB it may be 'stuttering' so much as to you not seeing it at all. Trying switching from one user to another and then going back.

256MB and under is barely enough to make using OS X enjoyable (sure 2-4 apps may be fine, get above that and it starts to feel jittery). It's best to max your RAM out.

Yes, I have fast user switchign enabled, if it makes a difference boith users require a password.

Also, i have 512 mb of PC3200 RAM, not only more than standard, but also teh faster version (standard is PC2700).

I see no reason why it shouldn't work, other than I know it requires quartz extreme and doesn't work with older video cards. Even though the mini only has 32mb, i'd imagine it would still be capable of doing the cube.

Not only does it fade, but it does so very smoothly.

So it's not an issue of quartz extreme.

it's definitely not showing because it's too choppy, the transition between the two is smooth and unhindered, it just doesn't have teh cube.

I have a Mini. It's running my monitor at 1600x1200, millions of colors. With these settings, I don't see the spinning-cube animation with Fast user Switching. If I drop to 1280x1024/millions or 1600x1200/thousands, I get the animation. The card is supported for QuartzExtreme (as are all current Apple products) but I guess they quietly trimmed some features as the card reaches the edge of its envelope. (These cards max out at 1920x1200--the resolution of a 23" Apple LCD. 1600x1200 is pretty close to that.)

16mb of video ram is the minimum to get quartz extreme enabled, but even then its VERY limited. But it doesnt end there, you need a G4 processor (altivec) at the least to initiate that function to begin with. On the mac mini you have them both. 32mb of ram can achieve all functions basically, let alone your g4 speed tops 1ghz to run it fast. Sootmann noted the limitations quartzE CAN have. Nevertheless, 32mb of Graphics ram afterall, aren't a lot.

I have a PB, and before I upgraded my ram I was running on 256 and I didnt see the cube either, and on top of that there was a lag. Once I upgraded there was no more lag and I see the cube. Ram really does the trick , so if you have the money I would suggest you invest in some.
