Explorer keeps crashing - serious problem

I seem to be stuck in a cycle of errors here. I started up my computer this morning, and as soon as I got to the desktop this error came up. OK, I thought; got this a few times before, so I clicked Close. However, as soon as explorer had reloaded the error came up again - clicked Close, it came up again.

What on earth could be causing this, and how can I stop it? I don't think this is linked to my previous problem, either. I didn't touch anything, it just sort of...appeared :slant:

system restore has saved my a$$ many a times

most people just turn it off :/

-check ur taskmanager (processes tab)

-disable all startup items from msconfig (troubleshoot gradually)

also try to remember what you have recently installed...

Also consider the Ultimate Boot CD (basic) and run at least the first two virus scanners in the Other Tools section... I've dealt with a similar problem on someone's Win98 computer and this fixed it.

(please note that this computer was simply screwed up... Ad-Aware SE Pro pulled 986 Critical Objects off of it ONCE I got it to boot)

Reminds me of the days i ran windows ME

I say just reinstall the OS and get it over with. If you dont reformat most of your program settings will still be there if you copy your old documents and settings folder to your new one. Plus you wont have to back up anything, just reinstall common used programs.

Yay, fixed it! :D

I downloaded Panda AntiVirus and it told me I had 4 or 5 virus which AVG didn't pick up on. Deleted those files and the problem seems to be gone. The only thing is that Panda stops me accessing the internet (no idea why) so I had to uninstall it.

Thanks for all your help folks :)
