[urgent help] big problem with browsing

Help me PLZ!!!!!

I have a big problem surfing : for 2-3 days I cannot access half of the sites I used to, due to unknown reasons. I run adaware, spybot, microsoft antispy, avast AV, ZA, spyblaster and still no solution. ISP says he's okay. using firefox, cleared the temp filez and still nothing. most pages are giving me the instant response "the page was not found" including sometimes aqua-soft.... tryed another hosts file, reprogramming the router MTU and nothing. anybody has an idea ??????

Try another browser, Opera for example, or at least MS Internet Explorer. I've had an issue like that with Firefox, too (it just refused to load some sites).

#253397

tryed IE and still no good...gonna try other stuff but have little faith in this...

if you are using a router, make sure that your computer's IP is propely set, as well as DNS, subnet mask and default gateway.

Good luck :)

#253412

And I think we're all under the assumption that if you have a router, you're not running any firewall programs, e.g., ZoneAlarm (Windows SP2 firewall as well).

#253437

as i mentioned i'm using well-configed ZA

xp firewall nosp disabled

still having problems :(

#253661

uhmmm maybe its your isp, sometimes their dns servers... go kaput... or something more bizarre.... O.o try this on your console

ipconfig /flushdns

peace~

have you rebooted? (probably have).

un/reinstall your network adaptor.

open the command window and type "ipconfig /release". hit enter then "ipconfig /renew". hit enter. (no quotes)

open the command window and type "ping www.site you can't get to.com" and see if you can even ping it. (no quotes). this will tell you if it's your connection or your browser.

make sure your network properties are set to "never dial a connection".

turn off "auto-detect proxy settings".

can't think of anything else right now.

#253753

and try to right click your Local Area connection and select "repair"

sometimes that helps.

#254407

still no good. (i'm typing this post from another computer in my office...)

wtf ??????

#254562

well this is weird..... I think my machine is goind down.....connected the network cable to another ethernet card I had and now it's working ! yet the computer makes funny noises. damn, I love that machine. but I guess it has to go :(

#254565

Topic moved.

Finally....:P

#254600

Yeah man, I got the same problem since this morning but for me it looks like its Deviantart that I cant access, the others seems to work fine.

I pinged devart and I got: "Ping request could not find host www.deviantart.com, please check the name and try again"

WTF is going on ><

@fueoddy-f: is your ISP comcast?

comcast is being a real **** lately...third or fourth time down for many hours...

#274010

Definitely, I've been experiencing a lot of problems with Comcast for the last few days...for some reason, it irritates me a lot more than it should. Just give them a few days (yes, I know they should fix it promptly, but whatever).

@fueoddy-f: is your ISP comcast?

lol no, we dont have comcast in France ;)

I have Wanadoo from France Telecom. So weird though. Why can I access all sites except DA ?

My host file is brand new and intact, so is my router.

#274075

i'm on wanadoo too

da won't load.

#274077

There have been a lot of ISP's DNS servers getting attacked by a little DNS poisoning lately. Happened to my ISP last week... they were actualy nice enough to tell me the truth about the issue. It only takes about 5 minutes to reload DNS table from a backup file... if they know what they are doing.

#274117

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna call them up ;)

#274154

so what did they say?

#274706

Wanadoo (french ISP) & Cogent (US ISP) are in a commercial WAR at the moment.

So Wanadoo & Cogent blocked all IPs from each others  !

It means all Wanadoo's client are unable to access 25% of all US websites (incl. DevART, Wincustomize, Photobucket, Yousendit, etc...) !

There are petitions and lots of complains and lots of unsubscribing. Its quite normal, Wanadoo is the most expensive ISP because its supposed to be the more reliable (well reliable my butt !). Plus, we subscribe for a an unlimited internet access. Since they dont respect the contract, people dont have to wait for their subscription to end. Think of all the companies that deals with US clients and all that, that's a lot of money lost

And Wanadoo didnt even told anything about it, it was supposed to remain private, but the info got leaked.

Well, Wanadoo is gonna loose lots of customers, including me !

That blows.. sorry you're getting screwed in the process.

Hope you find a better ISP.

#275279

Note to Comcast Users: (I'm one) Comcast recently under-went a TOTAL upgrade of ALL there servers. If you have not notcied they bumped our speed up to 4mb/s. There have been LOTS of things being updated behind the scenes. The downtime is expected to lessen soon. Definantly within the next month.

#275774

That's excellent! Thanks for the info.
