I'd say Winamp is the best, just because it's so easy to use and customizeable. Although I have recently switched to iTunes
because the whole library/playlist thing works better for me.
iTunes SUX : i'ts really heavy and annoying, if you want that kind of playlist use WMP10.
Anyway, whats better?
Winamp OR Foobar2000?
If you don't like iTunes you probably should have said so in your first post....eh? iTunes rocks! Well it does for me so yahboo!
my personal fav is foobar2000 hands down. discovered it around at version 0.6 and i havent looked back.
if you like iTunes because of the library and playlist etc. with the columns ui plugin and a few others you can get something just as adequate all while using less than 1/10 of the resources. foobar2000 skins itself according to the vs you use so if you want fancy skins and visualizations use winamp. there are also no eq presets but they leave that option up to you. its practical yet highly customizable. it gives you alot more freedom to make things as you want than winamp does. once you get the hang of it you wont use anything else. i suggest looking at the foobar2000 hompage and forums at hydrogenaudio to see just how much you have to work with.
peteross is right on the money. ive been a loyal foobar user for as long as i can remember ![]()

Ha... Ha-ha... Ha-ha-ha :slant:
iTunes have the best playlists system I've ever seen.
WMP is not a patch on it.
iTunes the best.
iTunes has the best interface but I respect Winamp as well and try to use both although my iPod tends to draw me more towards using iTunes as my default media player. WMP10 = sux0rz but one of MS's better apps.
i use both iTunes and WinAmp (untill i sort my mp3 library, then i`ll be 100% iTunes)
and if you don`t like iTunes, say so and stop being the judge of things :slant:
oh, by the way, there`s no absolute best. i suggest u dload both WA and F00 and see which ones fits u better.
winamp or foobar.
ITunes owns foob's and wana's asses... *note - i dont see what everyone is complaining about... it takes less ram and cpu then wmp*
itunes for me. haven't tried winamp but i have a feeling that it's just as good. i use itunes because it's from apple.
foobar2000 or QCD ![]()
WMP is overly heavy and I still think it looks appalling.
I'm yet to get Foobar to work, it crashes with another app I have to have running to keep my printer working.
Winamp is good but stick to version 2 if you have to use it (Winamp 3 just sucked and 5 is getting infected by AOL)
iTunes is my personal fave as it does what I need it to and I don't need Napster or some other stupid extra program to get my music (yes I'm a copyright supporter
(but not a software patent supporter))
If you want a good low resource Media Player look for the modified version of Media Player Classic going around, it can use all the latest codecs but is no more resource hungry than Media Player 5 (or whatever it was before MS decided to start skinning WMP).
iTunes for me too
;) I've tried winamp, WMP9 + 10, Foobar and QCD before. Winamp is just as good as iTunes, doesn't need as much resource as iTunes does but I don't care too much since I've got 512 of RAM. WMP just too heavy and there is no available widget for it. QCD and Foobar are definitely not my choice, I just don't like them, dont know why
:P . And iTunes is the best out there, it has every features that I need, plus I can use Konfabulator or Avedesk to control it.
But honestly I think you should give each of them a try and see which one suits your need, then you can start using it as your default player.
PS: I just noticed that konfabulator has a widget for WMP ![]()
I can't even -use- iTunes. It stutters terribly on my computer (a pretty exceptionally well-maintained computer, FYI), and is oddly laggy on every computer I've ever seen it on in terms of responsiveness to pushing buttons.
I don't trust WMP by nature. I don't like my media player connecting to the internet every 2 seconds while I"m just playing an mp3 from my hard drive. WMP visualizations are like, what, 30x10 pixel animations stretched out to fill the screen? They look ridiculous! At least in the versions I've used. I don't even use visualizations that often in Winamp, but WMP's are so bad that it makes it a good enough factor to make me not interested.
And Winamp 3 and up are all bloated and equally questionable since AOL bought Nullsoft (*sigh*). Ergo, Winamp 2.91, or whatever it is, with MAD decoder plugin.
so u use your guitar to play media files? ![]()
