[request] Command line desklet

Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering if there's any way of getting a new desklet in AveDesk (or SysStats) that will put a semi-transparent text box on the desktop that one can use to type in commands.

Something that's kind of done like this desktop...here. (Warning... possibly mature content, no nudity, just some skin)

The stuff in the screenshot was done with html and active desktop, but for whatever reason, I was never able to get that to work with AveDesk running as well.

Thanks!

So far, none of the available extensible desklets for AveDesk support hosting a text box or any other user interface control on the desktop. This may be addressed by a future version of SysStats or some later AveDesk native desklet construction environment , but we may as easily see this year pass by before that happens. In the meantime, I'd recommend employing Konfabulator or Kapsules for that kind of tasks.

Hi Herd,

Thanks for the reply. I'd rather keep my system as lean as possible. I can live without the command line box if AveDesk/SysStats can't handle it.

Cheers!

Console (http://sourceforge.net/projects/console) can be configured quite extensibly if you care to, and one possible way to use it is with no borders, docked to the desktop with alpha blending included (or a fake transparent background, as well). It's quite a nifty tool. Here's a partial screenshot of something you might configure it like:

Thanks for the reply, tomasr.

That looks like a pretty cool app... really reminiscent of the transparent command line from OSX and such... :)

I'll give it a whirl!
