Ethernet Card problems

Hey, I'm new.

Eh, I've been a mac user since I can remember, so excuse me if this is just a simple solution.

I really have no knowledge of PC boxes. ;)

I've been having a PC for a little time now.

I recently pushed the Sleep button on my keyboard, and ofcourse it went to sleep.

I waked it up later, and found out my ethernet card wasn't working properly anymore, it wasn't in my Networkconnections panel thing.

I thought I should reinstall my hardware, I did, and it reappeared.

BUT! It seem to be only sending packages but no receiving.

So I asked my cousin. He said I should reinstall the whole system.

As he sad, I did.

But now it's still doing the same thing. :(

Can someone help me?

i'm guessing it's a network interface card since you said you re-installed the hardware.

can you uninstall it in the device manager, then reboot? xp should re-detect and automatically install the drivers.

have you tried newer drivers?

Well, if you were to reinstall anything, I would have suggested only the network card... seems kind of overkill to reinstall Windows. Things to consider are making sure that everything is set properly (or rather, that nothing is set improperly) in the system BIOS; of course, the tired "make sure the drivers are up-to-date" thing; and finally, if the ethernet card is an actual card (e.g., a PCI card), you could try moving it to another slot. Not because anything is necessarily physically wrong, but if the sleep mode flipped some hardware/software switch, moving the card to a new physical location might address that. But that's probably overkill too. Try the card on another computer too, see if maybe the card just kicked the bucket.

Sounds like the card just decided to take a dump on ya...

My advice? Head down to your local Best Buy and drop the $15 for a new one. -_^
