Well it didn't take much time to overlock new MAC Mini!! Looks like somebody did it. It's possible to overlock CPU from 1.25 GHz ver. to 1.58 but it works stable only when overlocked to 1.42. It is possible because CPU speed is controlled by jumpers.Anyway it might be a problem while jumpers are very tiny...

Yes for a 3.2 ghz increase its well worth it - but would anyone seriously notice a 0.18ghz increase? I think not unless they are so anal that they wouldnt have a MacMini in the first place as they would be running some obscure operating system on their home-made Box.
well... if you can overclock the 1.25 to 1.42 and it's "stable", then that's kind of like upgrading your low end mac mini to the high end one, minus the extra 40gb. so its kinda like saving $100. but, don't get me wrong, i'd rather spend the extra $100 to keep my warranty, get the real 1.42, and the extra 40gb.

Oh and tell him to use the dark matter cooler. It works on absolute zero so that may help him run that CPU up to 10Ghz!

Have a look at hillbilly technologies p4 at 4GHz. Even Intel says that must be a mistake because the chips can't go that high; very very large timing issues at that frequency, imagine how far light moves at that sort of speed? What is it? 3-4 inches? So physical characteristics of the chip (dimensions) are a very real hurdle. You literrally couldn't get data on and off the bus quick enough - let alone the timing issues between command switching etc.
Some people have no clue how chips work... I mean - why do you think new chips come out to support higher clock speeds? By [your] mentality, I could just go and pick up a 200mhz p3 and overclock it to whatever I liked? Idiot.

Well not to continue the off topic crap but I think that 7 ghz is impossible as these people over at Toms Hardware Guide could only go to 4.1 ghz.

And hell yes it is worth overclocking a Mac Mini, just so it can feel "faster" isnt enough. To me numbers matter, wether it runs faster or not. And if its possible to overclock that one it must be possible to overclock the faster one aswell right?
psssh, my friend purchased his mac mini and overclocked it to 1.5ghz (originall stock 1.25ghz) - there is an article on engadget.com regarding this overclocking. Its just a matter of removing resistors.
