Mac OSX Screensavers 2.0

Hello everyone,

The Mac OSX Screensavers 2.0 versions are finished for Abstract, Beach, Cosmos, and Forest. Here are the links:

Now, these were carefully redone from scratch using the original OSX wallpaper. Credit goes to apple. I fixed the problem with the high CPU usage. I tested each one and found that they now only use 1.5 mb of RAM or less. The picture quality stayed the same and the file size stayed the same also. These are self-extracting archives and the install directory is already chosen for you if you are using Windows XP.

Now, the good thing is that these use less RAM than the previous version and it doesn't bog down your CPU and video card. The only thing is, I've been getting reports from people that they don't show up in the Display Properties control panel when you right click on the desktop and such. There must be a bug or something. The originals showed up.

I made these as screensaver files using the same program as the original. These took me awhile to make so, if they don't show up in the Display Properties control panel, then you'll have to run them manually from a directory of your choice.

Now that you know all the info on these versions. Please feel free to comment. Please don't complain too much and read everything that I just explained before ranting and raving. Thanks.

Let me be the first one to thank you for all your hard work... well done!

I have read the accompanying text and the install notes and here is what i have to report:

i suspect that the reason the screensavers do not appear in the display properties window is because the screensaver file ends with an *.exe instead of *.scr (for instance, your screensaver file located in system32 folder is called: Forest OSX 2.0.exe)

The performance values on my computer:

HP Laptop Screen Resolution: 1440x900

CPU: P4 3.2ghz

Mem: 512mb

My antivirus went crazy when i dl'ed this program... i guess theres a hidden .exe extension... :confused: so its really Abstract OSX 2.0.zip.exe

Download the file, rename to remove the .exe. Open archieve and extract .exe program. Rename program to .scr and place in system32 and it should show in control panel.

Very nice job on these vertigo. There is definately a noticible performance increase and the shuddering has almost completely gone on my 3200+; it is still noticible when the image changes. Performance is still not as tweaked as the motionpicture screensaver which works fine on my P3 933/9800Pro HTPC; this screensaver runs slow on the same system but I don't suppose it's hardware accelerated?..:/

Having said that the effect in your screensaver is far superior and I guess the trade off is that it will never reach the same level of performance as the relatively simple zoom and pan offered by motionpicture.

Anyway..... beautiful screensavers for sure!

Thanks for all your responses so far. I'm curious about why it only registered as 1.5mb RAM while running the screensavers on my system. Maybe because i had it minimized? I don't know. I don't think the program that i used to make these has hardware acceleration support. The program is called ProShow Gold 2.0. I think it's more designed to put your pictures on Photo CD/DVD with these effects and let your DVD player handle the transitions. This is the only program I can find that has the Ken Burns effect (Pan, Zoom, Rotate). If there was another program that could do these effects (like on the Mac OSX screensavers) then I would try it, but, I can't find another one.

They ran better than the originals on my PC.

Hmm. I'm sorry guys, I tried to do the best I could to make these better. I only hope there was another program that I can try to do the same with these screensavers. I'll keep looking. Until then, if they won't work after renaming the .exe to .scr, then you'll just have to double-click on them when you want to view them.

If you are using WinRar or WinZip, I'm sure you could right-click on the .zip.exe file and pick "Extract Here" and it'll extract the file for you. I used Stuffit Deluxe 8.5 to make the self-extracting archive.

I will keep looking for a different program which has the Ken Burns effect. Unitl then, thanks everyone for your responses.

It works perfectly fine and smooth and my pc. And it does not use alot of recorcues. Maybe you people are using windows generic video drivers..dunno.

I'm glad they work for you. Abstract was the easiest out of the four to make. Cosmos was the hardest, because there was a lot of black. When I made the pictures rotate, I had to make sure that you couldn't see the edges of the picture over the black masking.

That would be interesting to know. I don't know anything about code and command-line stuff. What will that do exactly? Would it make the screensavers appear in the Display Properties under screensavers?
