Mac mini vs Powerbook?

Just after Apple released the next wow thing (Mac mini) that you want to rush out and buy it, they release something else (new Powerbooks) that makes you hesitate and wonder.

A Mac mini with:

:: 512MB Ram

:: 4x Superdrive

:: Bluetooth + AirPort Extreme

:: Keyboard + Mouse (in comparison to Powerbook keyboard and trackpad)

...sums up to $972

For an extra $730 (Powerbook costs #1699), you get:

:: 12-inch display (1024x768)

:: double Video Ram (64MB instead of 32)

:: double Superdrive speed

:: 1.5 GHz instead of 1.42 (big deal(?))

:: standalone battery operation (Mac mini needs to be always plugged)

:: all in one, ready to operate package

Both machines share the same lack of upgradability.

Which one is better worth your money? The 12-inch Superdrive Powerbook, or a full-featured Mac mini? Does the new Powerbook eliminates the hype of Mini, or is it too expensive to compare?

.... depends... the pb has the display, and its PORTABLE, mac mini isnt...

well, if you need something portable the powerbook would be a smart choice, but if you only need a Mac I think you should go for the Mac mini. The difference of 0.08 Ghz is not big IMO (I could be wrong as I've never owned a Mac before) and with $730 you could add a nice 17" LCD screen and a set of BT mouse + keyboard + decent speakers to the Mac mini.

yeah that's right, you forgot the iBooks Ken. They are much cheaper than the Powerbooks (starting at $999, you probably already know), the only down side is that the maximum clock speed you can get is only 1.33 Ghz compared to 1.42 for Mac mini and 1.5 for powerbook. I would be more than happy to own an iBook :P

There's so much more difference between the PB and the Mac mini.

Consider these:

- SMS

- BT built-in, APE

- Scrollpad

- Optional backlit keyboard

- 3 built-in speakers + 1 mic

- 512MB RAM vs 256MB

- 64/128MB Radeon 9700
