[question] Metroid Prime 2

Whats with Dark Samus? Is it metroid prime? Is it something else? Would the mysterious hand popping out of that phazon crap in one of the metroid prime endings explain it? Me and my cousin have been debating this for a while now. I think it's metroid prime, he thinks it isn't. Any comments?
