it really depends on what internet you have, if you have dialup go to network properties in system preferances and enter your info for modem. If you have DSL/Cable use the ethernet selection in network to set it up. If you use airport or wifi use airport to connect. Select what you're using and click configure, then enter all the info etc.

maybe you should read the MANUAL 
And when you first turn on the Mac, it should ask how to connect to the internet,and it will auto configure it for you.
