Lucida Fonts

Ok, yeah, I know there are too many 'fonts' threads here. That is actually the reason why I am starting this one.

I have noticed that some of you have perfect or near-perfect Lucida Grandes in your screenshots, while others have a crappy version.

Also, some ObjectBars have a good font in some screenshots, while the icons have a crappy font.

What I would like you guys to do is post the CORRECT and MOST ACCURATE version of Lucida Grande, if you have it.

eg:

Font for OB: ...

Font for OB bold: ...

Font for icons: ...

Font for titlebar: ...

Font for Dock titles: ...

Font for menus and other stuff: ...

Anti Aliasing also makes a big difference, if Cleartype is on (on crts AND lcds), it looks much more OS X-ey.

There are really two fonts floating around. The regular Lucida Grande (which I prefer) and Lucida Mac, made by one of our Members. I know Spidercrab chose to go w/ Lucide Mac in his new iTunes skin, so if you need an example, there you go.

i have lucida grande installed on my mandrake system, but i can't select it through mozilla or gnome's preferences

what do i need to do?

I prefer lucida grande also, but they are both very nice :)

i think you can get it from aqua xp

#21744

Well, for the titlebar, LucidaMacBold is EXACTLY accurate, just like the real thing. However, I'd like the right font for ObjectBar and icon texts.

#21747

What folder is the font in. Id put it in Type 1 fonts. I cant remember the exact folder that other programs use though. Did you restart? Did you update your font config file?

Run the font installer in KDE Control Center to easily update your font config.

#21749

i installled the font using drakfont in the mandrake control centre.

where ddo i find this type 1 folder so i can put the font in it?

also i'm using gnome rather than kde.

thanks for the help :)

I reckon there are many different Lucida Grande fonts for windows. There are 2 main ones called "Lucida Grande" and "LucidaGrande" and they are very different fonts. I have tried many from all sorts of sources. I also think that windows anti-aliasing works poorly on this font for some reason. When the font size goes below about 11, all the Lucida fonts I have tried get a bit "roughed up".

I really like the LucidaMac font as it seems to have a weight that looks more like what Lucida looks like on OSX.

well, here's what I have:

Titlebar: LucidaMacBold unbolded. This one is literally perfect. Size 9 I believe.

Menus: Lucida Grande.

Icons: LucidaGrande.

OB: Dunno... :(

YzDock: Lucida Sans (unicode?)..

#21786

I'm happy cause my fonts, LucidaMAC & LucidaMACBold, are using for a lot of members ^_^

In my opinion, Truetype font is old font format. For this reason I work my fonts in type1 format. Now the more important thing is a antialiasing and smooth font (a good render is easy)... -_-

In Stardock apps is possible outline font, I love it  and use it in my OB and WB skins.

The problem is in windows font system. Only have one help: Cleartype. Type1 fonts are default smooth and is fantastic for complete Cleartype action.

I work in the final released of "LucidaMAC" & "LucidaMACBold". I work in change default windows system font by Lucida and create all basic windows font (arial, tahoma, comic, symbol, times new roman) type1 format too.

Uf!!!

Patience please. All in this forum soon. ;)

Apple Font Pack of about 92 Fonts are over at AquaXP I believe. Its what I use everytime I Re-Format. Just throw in all the files and hit "OK" for all the dupliate entries!
