I just want to know if anyone knows why the f*ck Apple insists on throwing an install of Quicktime inside the iTunes install package and doesn't give an option to install iTunes by itself??? Maybe I'm missing something but I don't think I saw any place throughout the install where it asked if I wanted to (re)install Quicktime.......if so please tell me how b/c IMHO that's nothing but a pain in the ass.

Didn't herd just say iTunes was a "wrapper" around QuickTime? So why would you rip the core out of iTunes by uninstalling Quicktime?
Yes thanks mntnbkr1065 for the flawless interpretation of my post!!! I just think it's a pain if you already have Quicktime prior to installing iTunes b/c when you install it from within the iTunes package you have to deal with the tray icon for Quicktime again..........(which isn't the end of the world but we all have our pet peeves).

not for me - still the old one - maybe you are using flykite?
BTW: my iTunes wont work without quicktime - I think it needs it somehow to play the aac files or something like that
It works with QuickTime Alternative on my system.

People don't like QuickTime possibly b/c of how deeply it roots itself in the system, etc. There's Quick Time Alternative, Real Alternative, etc. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of his? It doesn't really matter...he asked a question and wanted it answered.

I've NEVER installed Flyakite (I have no problem with it, I just don't need it) but I do have the Tiger style Quicktime icon, i'll go see if I can find it...

I just pointed out that the newest version of iTunes installs a version of Quicktime with the new icon. As shown by the screenshot.

It may be overkill but I installed the ACE Mega Codecs pack and the contro panel on that makes sure which programs are the default for each filetype (kinda like Associate This! without the cost). That probably installs Quicktime Alternative, I know it has a RealMedia Codec in it but no sign of Realplayer which I am very glad of.
