[ann]MY G5 PC :)

I have posted the specs at the "post your system specs forum"

I mounted the motherboard using custom mounts...it took a long time, but was kinda worth it. Mounting the harddrives is kinda hard...however I managed to get around it, but had to screw the holds in the G5...it's a mess but I will clean it up when I have more time.

Other pics are added for fun.

Questions/Comments and the mac flaming begin! hehe

Oh my GAWD! You have WAY too much money and free time on you hands :D Pretty impressive though, looks like it too some time to do. The fans look a little oddly placed, hows the temperature doing? i see there is a Nvidia chip in there, 6600GT? looks like it would heat up pretty nicely in there.

Well I'm not going to comment on what *THIS* guy has done because I have no idea whether he has or hasn't. All I'm going to say is that, yes, it's kind of a cool idea to add that extra 'mac feel' to your system by making it look like a mac on the outside as well as just on the screen, but when you look through that front grid it looks... a mess.

I will say this however; that's a pretty sweet setup on the desk with the dual monitors. Better than how my desk looks - not least because I have chocolate wrappers and all sorts of papers covering it.

i really did it. Want me to show more proof?

I bought the G5 case from my dad's friend that worked for a printing press. They received a shelled G5.

Wow, last time I tried posting something like this in the forum.

The scam you are all reffering to is http://www.overclockers.com/tips1133/

--I didnt buy a brand new G5 and stripped it...oh well, mod's lock this thread, I knew it was going to turn out like this.

I would of not done it if I had to pay an outrageous price for the case alone. I got the case free so I decided it was a good project to make. Even StevieBM asked me information regarding this a long time ago.

It's sad to think I have seen threads where people ask if it was possible to get a G5 looking PC, personally I thought they were all ugly until this oppurtunity comes along.

The beating that would be given to wiregen will now instead be given to unbe.

And-- commence.

I would have to agree with rimshot. When you look into a standard G5 case, it looks pretty clean. But you can see all the wires and stuff.

Poor G5. :(

#249433

what about poor Unbe who just got whipped?

i won`t be able to sit for at least a week

:( what is this world coming to?

These are the limitations to modding a pc into a G5 enclosure

1. It will fit a micro-ATX motherboard, unfortunatly a full-size ATX motherboard will not work.

2. Since the board is upsidedown, heat is a big disadvantage. putting the powersupply underneat the CPU does not help at all. So i reversed the PSU in order push the hot heat the other way.

3. Another absturction is the harddrives. On the upper right hand side of the case there is 3 slots for 2 3.5" harddrives but it would not work since to actually route them back there would cause a problem esp. for the setup I wanted. --I might try later on to use rounded HD cables to see if it cause clutter...

Well, cleaning the wires would be easy. The hardest part is drawing the proper airflow since- like i said, it's an ongoing project.

i can sum it up, its stupid... im sorry... but if u can afford those 2 dual monitors.... go get a 1.8 single g5 and call it a day

To each his own.

Personally I own a 12" powerbook. -> then went to a full blown 17" powerbook...even that - I barly use it since I find mac OSX doesnt even suit my needs. Now my brother uses 12" it. since i decided to keep it for kicks

check my old spymac account

It's not even about speed. Its more of terms of tastes and personally, mac OSX is not for me.

Regardless of the fact that's it's a PC (!) I still think it's pretty cool that you were able to do that. Granted it does look pretty bad that you can see the wires and junk from the outside... but that's still awesome

good job

#249445

You can get G5 cases for use with PCs or whatever you want to put in them.

Here for instance:

http://www.welovemacs.com/g5casenps.html

Also, calling someones project that is a work in progress "stupid" is disrespectful and not warranted.

#249447

Dude I think thats awsome. Its the same as emulating a mac inside, (as stated above).

I do think however that you should try to get some velcro and tie those cables up a bit.

;)

Was there really a reason for such a post?

Unbeliever, for all that is holy, give your **** beating chip a buffer :P

I was asked to close this thread, but, as un-mac like as it looks, a lot of people here will find it a cool thing to do, mainly because they like the looks of macs but want (or need ) to stick to windows. After all, everyother member has the right to dislike or like whatever he wants; which differs from =venting out hate for those who dont agree with him.

Please people, chill out and continue the discussion. If you have nothing good to say, dont say it.

I think it would look a lot better if you:

1. Tried to organize the calbes inside summore (mayb eeven getting some of those nice looking cables)

2. Put a cover behind the front holes as the mess that a home built PC exposes is shown through the metal holes.

#249509

i said sorry daddy

oh and Seph`s right, not matter if we agree or not, if someone wants to commit a crime against humanity, he is free to do it (at least in the land of AS :( )

#249522

Is that a G5 bin you have there? lol. You did a good job there but it looks a bit messy from the outside, because you can see through the holes, and... something in there is all wonkey.

I went to an apple store today, Tiger is coming in about 3 months, and they didn't have Mac Minis in yet, they where due to get them in like 2 hours.

Unbeliever's avtar scares me.

#250014

wow thats pretty neat

and yea as mentioned above, it wud be better if you added a cover behind those holes to hide the pc components, maybe a fake cover that shows how a real g5 would look eh?

good job

#250064

if only apple sells hardware for cheaper price, and sell pc components eg cases, cpu cooler and other stuff it would be really intresting. the iWindows product is released!

#250078

The reason apple doesn't do this is apparent in everything they do. They want to absolutely own what they do.
