[help] File Protection...

Hello everyone...

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I am tweaking my mother's computer and in trying to edit the system files, end up having to jump through hoops to get them replaced. The thing is... I don't remember having to do this on mine.

Let me explain, on my computer, I open the file in reshack, change what I want, then save, I wait a second for the WFP dialog and it ask me for the CD. I ignore and that's it.

For some reason when I mess with this one, File-Save doesn't do a thing. Is this something to do with the Admin account? I've seen ways to disable the service, but I don't remember having to ever do this.

Am I losing my mind???

Not what I need. I have replacer.

My question is why am I having to do this with this computer ( replacer ) as opposed to mine, where all I have to do is save with reshack to get a file to keep changes.

unless you turned off wfp, you always have to use replacer.

you can't even save files in reshacker that are currently in use by windows.

you have to:

-copy and paste the file to the desktop

-edit in reshacker

-save

-replace

Nah, the most I have to do is sometimes kill explorer and then save with reshack, wait for the dialog...tada.

But seriously, I might just keep my current install if this is some fluke .
