Redhat 9

arew you trying to change permissions of a windows drive/paritiotn... cause you cant put unix permissions on a windows side... if thats what ur trying to do...

also if you wanbt to change permissions.. why not use the CHMOD command in a terminal when your superuser/root

jsut type

chmod xxx /dir/to/change/permissions

replace xxx withe the corepsonding number code.. umm.. you can earch around for the number codes on google to find out what each code does.. for instance if i do chmod 777 /usr/lib when im root... it makes it so any user on the machine can read write execute in that directory...

answer to everything is that i'm stupid... sigh

i was trying to change the permissions on the entry in /mnt. It seemed like the right thing to do given the error messages i was getting.

Its ssorted now after editing the fstab file.and using mandrake control center.

If i can set it up with a few wwords in gedit it makes me wwonder why thhe installer couldn't do it :(

fissy

thanks for all this help by the way :)

Your holding the key down to long. LOL.

Yeah, The installer does mess up a lot. This is why people say that sometimes its easier just to edit config files by hand. You dont need a puny Wizard, all it does is edit the config files anyway.

Your keyboard repeat rate is set too high. I couldnt tell you where to find the settings though, as Ive never had that problem. Check the KDE Control Center.

Ps. I know you are having problems, but please edit the posts, you dont have to prove your having the problem.

Sorry

I don't notice that much, as i can only just about touch type.

Anyway, the problems fixed now. Its a known problem with XF and toshiba laptops, not me holding down the keys too long :P

I recommend http://www.mandrakeusers.com to anyone having linux problems. :)

Metalmusicaddict,

Just thought I would let you know not to mess with your fstab file. I can send you a shell script I wrote that will mount your ntfs drive. You may have to edit a few lines, but I can help you with that.

bolero, Redhat 9 is free. Just have to download it. Most mirrors are full as hell though. So for people on 56k or cant find a fast mirror Ill send it. Go here to download: http://www.redhat.com/download/products.html

i'll get anyone with a slow connection linux as well, i can download the popular distros in under 5 minutes :)

I'll send you for free if you live in the UK, its hardly worth sorting out paying me for postage.

Be free and use linux :)

Some people (like me) have 56K and it would take them a week strait to download it. Luckily I use Slackware, and they still get it all on one disc. (happy me!)

Just figured I'd make the offer. I dont really expect to get the cash. ;)
