[question]freeware visual style editors/creators?

Guys, my Stylebuilder trial just ran out a couple of days ago, and well I don't really care for the program enough to spend money on it, so I'm just going to uninstall it. Is there a freeware visual style editor somewhere? I'm sure there's gotta be an open source project somewhere like this. Anyone have any ideas? If there's not, the Mac OS 7, 7.5, and 9 visual styles I'm working on might have to become Windowblinds themes and someone can port them if they wish... Although it was originally my intention for them to be visual styles...

Well, ResHacker can be as editor, but it's really un-comfortable to edit msstyle in it.

Stylebuilder is the best I know.

how would one go about using reshack to edit a msstyle?

how would one go about using reshack to edit a msstyle? I think it shall just become a Windowblinds theme and let others port it if they wish or if there is actually a demand for an old school set of themes like this. Personally, I would like to start doing visual styles based on alternative or seldom used operating systems like these and others like NeXt, Solaris, etc...

edit: Sorry for the double post. I don't know how that happened, and I can't find the delete button.

You can edit/replace bitmap resources from msstyles file.

reshack allows you to access the resources in the MSStyles file.

the main resources you'll be altering are TEXT and BITMAP

the bitmaps are all the images displayed in the skin,

and the TEXT is an XML looking description that tells the skin how to place the images.

this means you'll have to look at some code

(sorry there's no free way to point and click your way through a skin.)

another good Resource Editor (Free, and better the ResHack) is from TGTSoft (yes, they make StyleBuilder)

it's called ResEdit and you can get it on their Download Page.

it's better than ResHack in that it supports 32bit alpha bitmaps (PNGs)

Me personally, I think that if you use a program that is shareware and it expires, and you really like it but don't want to "Pay" for it, is to just break down and Pay for it. Come on. Shareware, freeware, if you really like it - support the creator(s).
