[help] Virus installed by ActiveX Control

I did a really stupid thing, in IE, I went to a not so trustworthy site and accidentally installed an ActiveX Control that installed a bunch of apps (most of which I removed via the control panel) and infected many of my systemfiles, I've tried antiviruses but when I open them, windows gives me a dialog that the system will shut down in a certain amount of time so I have like 40 seconds to do a quick scan on my drive and by the time I get to quarantining, everything starts closing, no matter how fast I work I can't do it in that amount of time, is there any way of removing this? (BTW, the only Antivir I've tried was AdAware which probably isn't that good, I'm gonna try AntiVir Personal Edition soon as well...)

if you have a virus then Adaware isn't going to help you much as it's for removing spyware and malware. If you can, get a hold of antivirus software. I personally use Zone Alarm with Antivirus as it is not as bloated and a resource hog as Norton and should clean up your system.

Thanks a lot for all of the help! Okay, this is what I did, in case you ever need to know how to fix this, the files are all in the Temp folders but you'll have to use an Antivirus app to remove them (I used antivir) anyways, antivir worked really good. Now I opened AdAware and it works fine and the programs that I couldn't remove with Add/Remove Programs were removed with Antivir and the tool that shmengie pointed out (thanks shmengie, I knew of this tool from neowin but never thought it would come in handy) was helpful to make sure that there was no malicious software. I'm running both AdAware and AntiVir Luke Filewalker to make sure that everything's clean.

if it tries to shut down, simply type run > shutdown -a.

that will abort it. then run your scan.
