@longboarder543

1. that is called thread snatching

2. that is a ****ty, 2 sec wall. what u did is that u took a BAD image from Apple.com and added a 2 toned BG. try harder next time

Unbe, that was totally not called for. I agree with you 100 %, but its just plain wrong

for you to say it that way. Also, the nice thing here as you can tell from this thread, is

that when someone makes something thats crap, everyone else is friendly and tries to

suggest ways that the release could be improved etc. You however seem to be going

for the strait-out start-a-flame aproach.

#248098

this is why I never release anything......

But seriously Hobbes, I understand you're still learning graphic design and Photoshop et al. but do you truly need to share every little creation you make? My skills arn't any better, and whatever little wallpaper that I make I keep to myself and learn from my mistakes and keep practicing, but showing everyone else at a forum such as this is just asking to be shot down....especially with that. Next time think twice when posting a release, spend more time on something, perhaps show it to some other people (apart from Jesus Franco, who is biased) and ask their opinions/suggestions via AIM/MSN before posting it on the forums.

and above all, continue reading tutorials and practicing et cetera

#248110

Awww forget it. If you all have the brains of todlers I cant help it. Jesus Franco may be a lot

of things but he is definatly not biased, and you saying so proves alot about yourself.

Someone please close this thread before it gets any worse.

I never meant anything deragotry by calling Jesus biased, I merely said that him being your close friend might influence his opinion on your work. Much in the same way that I won't tell a friend of mine that their hard effort is utter crap. That, my good sir, is in no way saying "he is a lot of things."

If you can't take criticism: DON'T RELEASE THINGS.

That simple, laddy.

Not only have people been, very nicely (most people) pointed out the problems with these walls - they also gave you a lot of handy tips and advice, such as how to get the proper (or at least realistic) reflection.

But it's alright, you go take your ball somewhere else eh?

Good work Hobbes. Thanks for contributing. You can't always please eveybody.

Anyway, just a note about the sore point -- the reflection. I only offer this to help out, not to be critical: People have understandably nasty reactions to things that seem unreal, especially if it jumps out at you, which this does. It's an impossible reflection because it is the original object but flipped horizontally and squished a little, basically creating a mirror image on a common axis. Unfortunately, light doesn't work that way. The light coming at you in the reflection is what your eye would see if you could park it down there at the point of reflection, looking upward at a corresponding angle (a ratio of the angle of reflection and the angle of view). Therefore, it would be impossible to ever see the top reflected -- you would only see the edge of the top at best -- IF the reflecting material has a high enough specular cosine value. Typically, as in the official Mac images, the reflection fades off rather quickly. Also, the reflection should join with the source at the point the reflective material begins, in this case, the very surface it is sitting on... this would mean that anywhere you see the bottom of the object touching the surface, there should be a reflection starting at that point.

But hang in there and keep at it. We are all at different stages of learning. There is no harm in posting material you want to share. Keep it up.

There is such a thing as constructive critiscm, which I feel has been offered through out this thread. I have worked in design for longer than I can remember and there is nothing worse than putting hard work into something only for people to say "i dont like that" or "thats wrong" but what you have to realise is, as long as it helps you create better work - the more the better.

I would gladly have 100 people say "just tweak that" or "how about doing this" than 1 person saying "this roxxors my boxxors dude". It people who just say "this sux" or "thats crap" with no explanation of why they dont like it I feel sorry for, because if they are unable to articulate their reasons why they dont like it then it makes their opinion worthless.

Dont take things to heart so much - just realise that we are all just trying to help.

I am always on msn/yahoo and I dont claim to be the picasso of Photoshop - but I do know my stuff, so if anyone ever wants constructive critiscm or help - call me up.

Now everybody hug......

sheesh, guys, just get off Hobbes' back, like you said, he's still learning graphics, give him some slack. This is not the A-S I used to know and love. o.0

Unbeliever was talking to the guy who tried to steal your thread by posting his own version which was ... as he said quite poor.
