systray volume icon

as i am now using kol's lutetium msstyle, i can't see my darn volume icon in the systray! i searched here but didn't find any alternates. basically, i'm looking for a white one so i can see it against the black background. anyone got one/know of one?

also, if i do find one, is it explorer.exe i would need to reshack?

thx.

what style? you can easily take the black mac one, lighten it 100% to make it white, then reshack stobject.dll.

You could actually invert it-- use the traditional muted icon (gray/white) for sound on, and a black one for no sound.

I don't remember what you need to mod-- see if you can get flyakite to answer, and I'm sure other people know.

okay, thx everybody (so far). per dreamz, i found the icon in stobject.dll. i thought i knew what i was doing. HA! here's where i'm at:

i found the icon in stobject.dll under icon|10|1033. i went to action|save icon. i opened in irfan and saved as a png, inverted, saved and resaved back as an ico. so far so good. now the problem: now matter how i try to replace that icon or resource, that particular icon is not a choice. the icons available for replacing start at number 200, which is the 'icon groups' resource. you guys have reshacked before and know what i'm talking about. (which is good, cuz i sure don't!)

so, wtf am i doing wrong?

thx again!

You need to replace icons 230, 231 in the icon group section.

The icons are only the group icons split indiviually. You'll want to make a new multi-size icon using something like @iconsushi...

In reshacker

- Save #230 and #231 as icons.

In @iconsushi:

- Open #230. The program wil split the mutli-icon for you.

- Save each size as an individual PNG image

- Replace the 16x16 PNG with your own

- Open all the individual PNGs into @iconsushi at once

- Select all of the images and choose "Save as Multiple Icon"

- repeat with #231

In Reshacker:

- Replace #230, 231 with your new multiple icons

coolio! thx for the step-by-step. i never woulda got that. i do need to figger out how to get this a bit cleaner (i did a straight 'negative') but it worked! btw, i didn't even touch 231(muted). i like it the way it is.

normal: volnorm.jpg and muted: volmute.jpg

anyways, thx to everyone for helping me. this really is what the forums are all about!

p.s. damn, is this the kinda sh!t chris kite and danimator and stefanka go through? plus they gotta code and write installers? and then listen to people like me whine cuz i also want it in fuscha?

Yep. Have a look through shell32.dll when you have a free weekend and realize just how many dialog boxes they and the rest of us have to go through to get a thorough job done.

With reshacker's ability to randomly corrupt files after multiple edits, I wait until I have a lot of changes to make before diving into shell32. I do it all at once from a fresh file.

Anyway... I'm glad you got the icon working. It's always nice to see a new hack finished, making one's desktop that much nicer to look at.

holy crap! i just kicked around shell32. i think i sprained my wrist clicking...

#244117

yeah, shell32.dll takes a while.

if anyone's interested, i created a minimal shell32.dll using serenity icons.

since I'm lazy and not good at graphic stuff, if anyone has done the light icon, please share it by posting it here. Thank you in advance guys :P :P :P

@dreamz: fer sure i'd be interested in checking it out. shmengie at gmail dot com.

@duyvan82: if you mean the volume icon like me, here 's the mod'ed icon group. just use reshack and replace icon group 230.
