although it's appearance changes as you switch applications, it still sits there on the top left hand corner. Any advise ? Thanks !

I don't think you can get rid of it. That's the way how windows works. Programs have program icons on the top-left of the program.
You could ResHack each .exe (some, like iTunes, may not like ResHack), exctract the icon, make all 16x16 icons transparent, replace the icon in the .exe, RePackage (or whaterver its called) and viola, it's removed. Hmmm, that's not really a viola type of moment. It's possible, just very labor intensive.
Yah of course as wizard wrote. But that would take a tremendous amount time

Quick question though... where's the WindowBlinds setting that lets you remove the icon? I found the user icon tweaks, but that was it. This has urked me too!
I think you have to code the skin so that the icons go away, I don't think it's a setting.
Flyakite changes all of them to aqua OSX ones. Maybe we could ask him?
With WindowBlinds, well, in SkinStudio, you can literally click and delete the "System icon" object in the preview, and that should take care of it.

Flyakite changes WIndows system files (e.g. EXEs and DLLs) to change icons for common applications, as well as a few extras (like WinRAR). You would have to change each program file to remove or change the icon. Flyakite just does the system ones in one batch through the installer.
It's just a little icon...it could be worse.
How do i replace that icon in firefox, i remember i read that here on the forum a hile ago, i cant find it again though.
All you need is resource hacker get it here
Then just click file--->open and open firefox.exe. Then action-->Replace icon and change 32512 and 0.
If you want it to appear as if no icon is there at all, open shell32.dll (located at C:WINDOWSsystem32shell32.dll and the icon number for me is 50, 51, and 52. (all Clear icons. Cannot be seen)

answered too quickly. sorry. i read your answer and thought that you'ld be right.
now i tried to remove explorer's icon using y'z toolbar, but the only thing i can change is the toolbar and the windows flag. tried different y'z toolbar themes, read the .ini settings of y'z, searched at google, tried windowblinds styles, msstyles and removed some shell32.dll icons on my own. nothing.
i am using y'z toolbar version 1.3, perhaps an old version? but i didn't find any newer ones.
any further ideas?
hm - the window-blinds-thing is the right way imho.
you can simply edit your skin with skinstudio --> and delete the button. easy thing.
