[help] Firefox 1.0 issue

I finally updated my firefox to 1.0 (was too busy/lazy to do it upon initial release) but i've encountered an annoying problem.

most windows i of course want opened in new tabs, not windows.

but for my college's java e-mail server, i like the compose/reply dialogues to open in new windows. in my old firefox, they used to do so without problem.

i have tabbrowser preferences downloaded, and have set "open these requested javascript popups in tabs" to "unresized popups" and when i'm using the email, the dialogues will pop up in new, small winddows as i want. HOWEVER ... i cannot, for some reason, enter text in any of the fields therein. Thus it is useless if i cannot compose any emails from the window.

I can enter text if the aforementioned setting is changed to "all popups" instead of "unresized", but this opens the entire compose/reply dialogue in a huge new tab, which i don't want but will have to deal with for the time being.

can anyone help? i'd be forever grateful.

Are you using Windowblinds? I've been having a similar problem of my own with Windowblinds 4.4 and Firefox 1.0. Combo boxes on websites aren't working properly, and when I open a new tab or open a website (basically do anything once Firefox is started), I suddenly can't type in the address bar or anywhere else in the Firefox window. The only way I've found to correct it is to open the Tools>>Options dialog, find a text box and type something into it, then cancel out. After that, I can type normally, but the problem routinely returns. I've reinstalled Firefox, wiped out all downloaded extensions and themes, but nothing helps. The only solution I've found is to make sure WB doesn't skin Firefox at all, which bites.

If anyone else has had this problem, and/or knows of a better solution, please let me know!

EDIT: I thought I'd narrowed it down, but the problem continues to occur with stock versions of both 1.0 PR and 1.0 Final. Am I the only one having this problem?!

Dunno if it helps or not but I had this problem while using Objectbar. Once I got rid of that I could type text normally.

You're right, that is the problem. You couldn't find a fix for it other than removing ObjectBar? Eh, I'm not too keen on getting rid of a product right after I bought it (I didn't have this problem with the free version, either). I hope Stardock finds a fix for it soon.

@iamthejarha ... thanks for the response ... i had thought it was windowblinds too, and i'm still fairly sure that it's wb as opposed to ob. i've tried running my computer without windowblinds but with objectbar, and my ff works as it's supposed to. i don't know though, i'll have to test it the other way around but i won't have my computer handy until next week, but i hope somebody posts a fix, or provides a workaround, or that stardock fixes the bug! does wb 4.5 have this issue?

If you're running WB and OB exclude FireFox...I think that will fix it short term....

Guys I had a similar problem and I'm runing both WB and OB. One thing that I can recommend is to upgrade to WB 4.5, it seems to have the fix for it. Other than that while I was using version 4.4 of WB I found I could (relatively) easily fix the problem by setting WB to rollup the application by clicking on the titlebar in WB advanced settings. Whenever I couldn't type in firefox I would just double click the titlebar in firefox, rollup and rollback down again and voila it worked again. Odd problem though I do agree.
