http://www.macmall.com/macmall/families/ibook/

Hey, does anyone know if this is real or if its yet another fraud mac site ?

Thanks. If anyone has done biznes with them let me know.

mac mall is not fraud, though i thought authorized resellers could only take 10$ off max. anyways you could report this to apple and apple would give you 10% off

two choices that dosen't contradict pwn's. either it's a second - hand or it's a refurbished one. may have some issues so tha'ts why it's not that expensive.

report it to apple ? do you have a link or something to do this or do you just mail them or something ?

It's a clearance item... the 1GHz G4 iBook is no longer manufactured or available from Apple. Only the 1.2 GHz and 1.33 GHz G4's are available.

They can sell them for actual cost if they felt like it. Apple allows it's resellers to mark down out-of-production items to whatever price they choose.

I purchased a brand new G3 500 MHz ibook for $475.00 when they discontinued them.

CompUSA marked them all down to $10 over cost to get rid of them.

I still got the full warranty and everything with it.

You can get the newer iBook G4 1.2 from Amazon for the same price and shipped free. See the 100.00 Rebate..

Apple have just done across the board price cuts in the UK online store. Maybe worth checking yours out?

#242899

They arent producing it anymore ? 0_o Is it a better deal to buy the 1 Ghrz for 899 $ or to

save up 999 $ and get the 1.2 Ghrz ?

#242921

well you are getting .2GHz speed increase and an airport extreme card built in. aex cards are only 79$, so if .2GHz is not important to you get the 1GHz one

#242923

Im not going to be using the airport card at all, since I dont have any other macs around,

but how much of a performance increase would I get with the extra .2 ghrz ?

#242928

Airport extreme cards allow you to access a wireless network (I think). So it's not an issue if you don't have any other Macs around, but if you have a wireless network you probably need it.

#242937

Doesnt it only work with airport users ? I dont have an airport probably never will, and the

only network I would be connecting it to would be my home lan thingy.

#242950

IMHO the iBook's airport uses the same standart as the Windows W-Lan networks. So you don't need an Apple airport to use the wireless.

#242952

The Airport Extreme allows you to connect to a wireless network. So, depending on your home network (wired or wireless), you either need it or you don't :) Just check what type of router you have - wireless or wired.

#242960

aex is just apple's 802.11g cards. g is backwards compatible with b also ;)

#242966

Hmm, well, my home network is all wired, I would have made it wireless but I dont

have the cash and to top it all off my dad is afraid of ppl intercepting wireless stuff

lol. My main concern is still the loss of performance and how big it will be. Has

anyone here bought the 1 Ghrz model ? How fast is it ? How much slower than the

1.2 Ghrz ? Im not all that excited about spending 100 $ on 200 Mghrz.

#242975

You'll notice the difference only if you get a stopwatch and sit all day calculating which is faster. In real world, its non-existant. But it may show up in apps like Photoshop and other CPU intensive apps. And I assume you don't mind waiting a second or two more for an app to do whatever you want it to do.

#243330

Well, I hope your right. I think Im gonna try and get it if its still on sale there for 899 $ in about 2 months :S

#243344

I'm just adding my 2 cents. Since you can save $899 for the 1Ghz so why can't you wait and save another $100 to get the high end 12" iBook? Although there is not much difference between the 2 models but 1.2Ghz is always better than 1Ghz isn't it???

Anyway, just my 2 cents do as you want ;)

#243358

Well I doubt Im gonna even save up 899 $ (I still need 699 $) And I need it within 2 months max :'(

#243391

Think beyond having your ibook in your home. If you commute around with your ibook, an aex will come in handy when there are wifi hotspots like starbucks where you can just hook up to their network and surf broadband style! ;)

Trust me, you'll enjoy surfing on other ppl's network for free when you're on the go.

Just my 2 cents worth.
