iBook good enough?

Hello everone,

I just opened this topic to point out some things for me.

Right now I own a Windows Notebook (1,8GHz, 512DDR Ram, 40Gigs HDD, 15,4" Display), but I think about buying an iBook.

The problem is: I don't have that much money and I won't have in the next 5 years, because I will start to study, so the money is rare then

I am thinking about buiny the following machine

Is it worth to change my PC Notebook with that iBook?

I would like to buy a Powerbook, through the exchange rate (Dollar/Euro) it's not that expensive, but I'm not sure, if I have that much money.

After the Apple show in a few days maybe the prices will fall until the summer, but right now: What do you think?

I don't wanna play with it, I just want to use it for university/listening to music/chatting etc

I'd suggest going to the Apple website for your specific country to check prices first. They aren't exchange-rate dependant so might differ an awful lot.

In the USA I would pay 1185 Euro, if I buy it here 1600 Euro.

For one Euro I get about 1,35 $

So it would be cheaper

First off - unless you really, really need the SuperDrive I'd recommend getting the 12". The screen resolutions are exactly the same, the 14" just has bigger pixels.

I've never seen a 12", I guess, it's quite small, isn't it? I'll take a look then.

If the 12" woulb be ok for me, so a PowerBook could play a role as well.

What do you think about the speed? Mhz, Ram etc.

Would you recommend the change?

Depends if you have the money for a 12 inch powerbook, in terms of speed its faster, and built for performance. It weighs less, is thinner, and more pleasent looking (even though both types of laptops are nice). If it pans out to your price range I would suggest the powerbook.

I'd say you should keep your current laptop and put the money in a safe place. Then in about a years time your laptop will be more out of date and there will be a more powerful ibook on sale for the same price (hopefully).

What you are currently using sounds more than capable of doing most things - I only upgrade when it blows up

The problem is that I definately need a new notebook in summer, because of the universitiy.

My storrage battery now just let me work about 1hour without current entry.

It's too less.

no man. first thing is.... if you're looking at powerbooks, WAIT as long as you can, they are already overdue for an upgrade. but if you're into the ibook, man, the one you linked to in your first post is perfect for what you want to do, and if you sell you current comp you can max the ram on it and get accessories and sh1t. back to my first suggestion about powerbooks, man, have some patience, keep saving your money and wait and when they release the new line go and sell your current comp to add that to your stash and BAM, you get this fat-a55 dreamy powerbook

But, in my experience (and yes, I know that apple warrantees are international) you really want to buy it in your home country otherwise when (yes WHEN) you claim on applecare you save oh so much hassle from dim apple support types. With a laptop, always, always buy the extended applecare.

the 12 ibook is definetlly worth it, if you can squeeze the benefits out of it.

reason 1. it's actually the cheapest ultraportable notebook out there. it's weighs a bit more, but definetlly worth it.

the extra screen size dosen't make a diffrence unless you are really blind.

2 it's an apple product. you get all benefits of using apple.

3. it's only 0.13 mhz slower than a powerbook.

4 you will save a ton of hassles from pcs.

use your pc notebook for now if you have a better choice. i would buy it, but i doubt your needs are the same as mine.

If the 12" is not too small for me, I guess, I will buy it.

Depends of my money if it will be an iBook or a PowerBook.
