I was just wondering, what is the difference between win98 and winME?
Is the only difference graphics? Like how the my computer icon just looks more spunky and a few dialogs are changed? I mean, Is security with the 2 OSes just as bad?

Seriously, WinME is incredibly buggy. I've never had it on my home machine but when using my neighbor's state of the art computer, it froze every five minutes with serious crashes almost every day. It is not worth your time or money to even bother with it.

Windows ME is an eyecandyfied and destabilized version of Windows 98. Avoid at all costs.
Windows Milennium (sp?) Edition was a quick way for Microsoft to make a buck before the release of XP. Everything that was done to make it different was done completely wrong, and in most cases, not finished at all. 98 (first edition) is better than 98 SE, which is better than ME.
Err, I wasn't planning on getting it anyway.
Besides, Wasn't W2K (windows 2000) released next? That was more spunky than windows 98. like ME was, and was a lot more stable and had better security, etc?
I don't know exactly the dates that WinME and Win2K Pro were released, but they were very close to eachother. Either way, 2K (which used the NT technology, NT 5 iThink it is) was not advertised for a home user's OS. It was aim more toward the advanced user, hence only a 2000 Professional edition (accompanied by a Server). Microsoft then got wise to use the NTFS as the mainstream file system, thus creating XP (NT 5.1 methinks).

version you should definately try it.
i used ME before, and as everybody feared before the year 2000, the only thing that is associated with the word millennium that os. no wonder why everybody feared it. hahaha. i had it on my laptop, and trust me. you do not want that os. it has new features and stuff, but it's not complete. it's like releasing a person like frankenstien instead of a truely revived and healthy person. they just stitched up some random stuff that they thought that are good.
just wondering, where there ever any service packs for winME to make it more stable?
i doubt that microsoft will have support for me users. windows me was discontinued when xp was released correct me if i'm wrong. that's what i thought.
so i think that there aren't going to be much updates anymore. maybe some major update for some serious stupid programming mistake but other than that, like security and others, i don't think so. i think you can find some old updates though.
