This is a good thing if it's true. It won't affect me that much, since I don't have a single PC in the house now (yes all Macs as of a month ago) but I know a few people that will be getting a new Mac because of this.
Wow- this just gave me a good incentive to save up, instead of blowing all my money...
Eh, but will it still hook up to dvi moniters or also vga? Cuz if they're not then they're advertising their own moniters, and you'll have to buy one as opposed to using your old vga one.

This would be cool. But it all depends on the design. If the computer looks like a $400 equivalent of an x86 PC, then it's crap. Maybe a miniG5 case? That would be cool. Even though it would be misleading...

They should make a quadro MP G5 on 3Ghz, 1 TB or RAM, 5 TB of HD, SLI graphics, 10 PCI-E slots, Blue Ray burner and ecase it with brushed Plutonium. Oh, and bundle it with Mac OS X 10.9 Saber tooth!. Price - $149 or bundle it with iPods. Shipping date - yesterday!

oh come on... with 500 bux you know you can get a much better pc than that pos slow crap. it's rediculous, apple is just milking the fanatics. dont' get me wrong, i think the design of apple products are great, but people get overly obsessed and get crap stuck in their eyes.
Nomis, just a few thoughts...
1. Mac's are PC's too
2. Have you tried this "headless" mac that you claim is a "POS slow crap"?
3. You do realize that if you answered something along the lines of "no, but the specs look like it would be crap" that you will pwn yourself? (hint: rumor-derived expected specs)

if it was a Penitum or AMD machine, 1.25GHz would be slow.
but this is a PowerPC, it's not fair to judge just on the clock speed.
So essentially, its a headless eMac. eMacs are not the fastest, but I can vouch that after using one foer 3 weeks, I found it to be faster + better than a 2.0 Ghz Sony VAIO.
And one thing to remember; they are not meant to be speed-monsters. They are meant to be cheap intro computers that will help Apple get a bigger user base vis-a-vis, more developers writing software for OS X.

hehe, no harm was intended, just wanted to point out the obvious. and the obvious is that different processors can't be really compared, but the user experience in speed can. i use macs from time to time and i know how slow or fast they can be. on the dual g5, it's literally screaming, and well, some others are just slow.
but guess we'll see. another point i want to make. it being apple, we somewhat expect the design (case, whatever) to be clean and sexy, but i wonder if because of this price they'll compromise it.
