[question] Is it possible to share an external hard drive between a PC and Mac?

I have a 120 gb external hard drive is connected to my Mac and I was wondering if it would be possible to share the drive between two computers one with a Windows OS and one with a Mac OS? The drive claims to be compatible with both operating systems.

Thank you in advance.

You'd get more luck if it was networked-- The two have different file systems, so (AFAIK), you couldn't just plug it in to one, and then into another. However, you could set it up as networked, and shared (directly connected to either the Mac, or Windows).

Hope this helps,

I think k it depends on how your hard drive is formated. If you want to make it comatible on both platforms, you would have to format it as FAT32. I am not 100% sure but that's what I ve heardHope that helps

as far as the drive goes,

bondjames is right.

just format it in Fat32 and Windows / MacOSX will be able to read it.

(most likely it came formated in Fat32)

the only problem you MAY run into is the actuall interface.

(whether or not your PC has USB2 or Firewire)
