Wow. 23,000 people? How horrific.
I have deepest condolences of all of you! I know it sounds like a joke but it's not. I feel really sorry and shocked when I think of what's happening out there.....and I don't hope...I'm sure that everything will be all right some day again.
i have friends and familiy in thailand. they're all ok, so far as i know.
but one of my best friends lives in indonesia, and i've been unable to get a hold of him. i hope he's ok.

After following the numbers, 60,000 people and counting have passed away, families are broken and millions are homeless; condolences are not enough.

It's good to see that the big countries in the west (UK, America and Australia) are helping out. Yesterday, from the ACT (where I live) in Australia, the Australian government sent planes with equipment to try and help stop the threat of disease.
And to add to Seph's "If you can, please donate to the red cross by following the links above the navigation.", I would say it would be wise to donate to the other appeals as well.
Very horrible disaster, i'll be donating as soon as i can.
According to Yahoo New's the death toll is now over 63,000 
I heard a guy on the BBC this morning from Oxfam saying how he'd like to see government donations outstripped by individual donations from each country...
I think that's a very noble idea, personally, and hope that my £50 goes to help save some lives

And rising every hour. It's a shocking enough disaster to happen with the 12,000 that was reported on Monday.
It's a good thing that the earthquake that caused the tsunami didn't happen further out in the ocean as it would have meant more people would have died (especially if it managed to get to more of Africa).
We Australian's can be considered lucky that a similar even didn't happen a few days as we got a >8 on the ricter scale earthquake down at the bottom of Australia. It didn't cause a tsunami only because the earth move horizontally.
It's a shame we can't say the same for the area's affected. Indonesia has one of the largest death tolls because of the diaster (>30,000).
For those that can (I unfortunatly can't due to a low income), donate away.

That would really be hard for them to cope with. It's bad enough a local TV network in Australia claimed that an Australian Footballer (AFL) that was lost in the disaster was found, then it was later confirmed that the network was wrong. This did hurt the missing footballer's mother (if I remember correctly).
And BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat says it now is 70,000 people dead.
I myself have been following the reports on ChannelNewsAsia the past few days. Seeing at all those dead bodies and crying people just simply breaks my heart. My deepest condolences to all those affected by the diaster.

thank you all very much for your concerns and donations. i am sure that a little would be even more for the thousands that have been left homeless.
i am from one of the countries that have been affected. (Maldives). As we are a very low lying country many of the islands have been completly washed, and thousands are homeless. I live in the capital Male' which wasn't quite affected by the tsunami. But most of the islands have been completely destroyed and it will take many years and lot of hard work and a lot of effort to bulld them again.
The government is doing all they can to help and provide relief aid to those who have been left homeless. They have been brought to the capital and around thousands are now at various schools. We are getting lot of foreign aid (bit by bit). There are lot of fears that an epidemic my spread due to congestion of people. Even now there is some fear of diarrhea. We need lot of aid, since we are relatively a poor country. But thank god that we didn't lose that many lives compared to the other countries.
I think that there is nothing much an individual can do, but together, maybe we can do something. It will turn someones gut inside out, to see how horrific the devastation really is.
Once again thank you all for your concerns. I can only hope and pray that our small country will survive this disaster.

btw, the news is preditcing that the death toll is likely to surpass 100,000..

It really breaks my heart to see what has happened, makes us wonder how tiny we really are in the hands of nature. Lets hope that united we can make a difference.
Thank you guys(esp Seph) for being so kind. I as a citizen of India thank you for whatever help you did and and plan to do.And the red cross donation banner is wonderful. Aqua-soft is more than just a meeting place of geeks it is as thoughtful as you can get.
Its horrible. Initial figures said total 7,000(all countries) but now there are more than 7,000 dead in India alone. Total figure is now more than 114,000 and it is most probably going to rise with chances of an epidemic breakout. Its everywhere in the news, all the people in the street discuss it.
I sometimes feel ashamed to laugh with so many other in my country and of course neighbouring countries in such poor condition.
My distant relatives were affected (they live in India) and part of my friends family who live in Sri Lanka as well, thanks Seph. Also, has anyone seen the difference in apple's homepage and microsoft's? apple has links to places to help out the people affected and microsoft is advertising new products :slant:
According to CNN.com the death toll has now reached 134,000+, updated at 4:01 AM EST. Absoulutely disgusting. I've donated, hope everyone who is able too does so.
134,000?!? That is a catastrophe. I will donate also.
