[FAQ] Change ICON size to 128 or higher

I don't know how many of you know this, but you can make your icons in Windows XP any size you want. I figure this is common knowledge, but if it's not, well let me show you.

Basically what you are changing is Windows Metrics in the Registry editor.

Navagate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics

Locate "Shell Icon Size" then change it to say 96.

Then you will need something to rebuild your ICON Chache, I used TweakUI.

Here are my icons at 96x96.

And below I have changed the size to 128x128

there was something like this before - but its disappeared into the depths of the old A-S forum.

Also you should mention that it will also alter the size of your icons in the Start menu bar (which may be an issue for some people).

Yes, that is true, along with the icons when ever you browse for a file to the left of the browse window.

I have yet to figure a work around.

1. This information is redundant, this has already been posted before, a quick search should yield the required info in more than one thread.

2. How long have you been here? you ~should~ know by now that images CANNOT be larger than 500 x 375, will you get this one of these days?
