I don't know how many of you know this, but you can make your icons in Windows XP any size you want. I figure this is common knowledge, but if it's not, well let me show you.
Basically what you are changing is Windows Metrics in the Registry editor.
Navagate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics
Locate "Shell Icon Size" then change it to say 96.
Then you will need something to rebuild your ICON Chache, I used TweakUI.

And below I have changed the size to 128x128
