[help] Internal DVD burner in a USB2.0 enclosure

This is the situation. I`ve got a laptop with crappy 40gig HD and i figured it would be cheaper to buy a DVD burner than buy a new, bigger HD. Also there`s no way i`m gonna shell loads of cash for an internal laptop DVD burner/external one, so i`ve decided to buy a regular internal DVD burner and put it in a USB2.0 enclosure like i did with a hard disk. What r ur opinion on this?

This would also help me cause the combo drive i currently have in my laptop sux donkey`s a$s.

Should i do it this way or shell (lots more) cash for an external DVD burner?

This would also be a plus since i plan to buy a tower in near(ish) future and use the DVD burner in it.

All pros and cons are welcome

For the moment my pick is Pioneer DVR108D, but suggestions are welcome

Just go ahead and put it in the USB 2.0 enclosure, it's quite easy as you already know. And that way when you get a tower you can just break it out of the enclosure and pop it in there. This sounds like your best option to me.

How about the NEC ND-3500/3520? It does everything the pioneer does, only cheaper!

Oh, and BTW, I say go with the enclosure too. If you know how, and it ain't hard, why shell out more for an external drive? They are exactly the same thing, with a fancy outer shell.

that's exactly what I did with my DVD RAM. I had an enclosure USB2 for my old CDRW drive and I just removed the CDRW by the DVD RAM and it works like a charm ;)

oh @ YellowCows - call it a habbit but all Pioneers i owned worked like a charm, none ever broke so i think i`ll be going with the 108D (+ i can`t find the NEC in Serbia >.< (
