[advice] Download Managers for Firefox

I've been considering downloading a manager for Firefox 1.0, but there are quite a few available. Even official Mozilla sites recommend about 6, in addition to the fact that Firefox has one built in.

Does anyone have recommendations for any particular extension and why... I am looking for a download manager that is speedier, but not bloated with features. As long as I can restart a download after it finishes (without having to copy paste urls as with Firefox's default), I am happy.

Any advice?

How about Download Accelerator plus 7? That speeds things up nicely for dial up users

EDIT: not sure it's for firefox though, although im not sure

I'm using freshdownload: www.freshdevices.com

Works nice, sometimes it's doesn't 'catch' smaller downloads, but that's no big problem for me.

I agree with daclothe, leechget is the best download manager I've seen, and its clean and free. I love it

I've tried DAP and Lightning Download before, but leechget tops them all

Leechget is nice for large files, but it only slows my computer down when trying to get tiny files.

does it really? hmm...I've never noticed a difference. its only using 9 megs of memory at heavy downloading (right now anyways)

I suggest using downTHEMall! It's a very effective download manager, pretty much eliminates the need for other external programs. I keep FlashGet + FlashGot just to be safe, but in fact I don't think I'll ever need it again.

Meh I wouln't use Download Accelerator Plus. It comes bundled with spyware and other junk. If you don't believe me, if you have it installed, run Adaware or Spybot S&D and see what you come up with, I haven't used it in forever, but they might've cleaned up their act, I doubt it though. I personally like Leechget and Fresh Download as well.

doesn't seem to work with firefox though :( might be time for change.
