ummm...have you tried switching to another vs to see if your tabs come back? maybe try windows classic...
are all the tabs there? if you click that thingy, do they all pop up? did you try switching vs? how come that thingy is there now but not in your original screen? what changed? what other visual mods are you running? flyakite? windowblinds? y'z toolbar? wxp home or pro? when did it start doing that? did you try system restore? how old are you and how much do you weigh?

did you replace any system files?
