i got a new car!

i just bought myself a brand new car, 2005 toyota camry le silver. this is my first car, and i'm paying for it with my salary at 1.9% rate.

i was a little nervous at first because i had to drive it home from the dealer, which was 30 miles away. i was afraid i'd get some scratches on my new car, but it rides so smoothly.

it's nice.

i also had an interesting experience on the way to the dealership. i took the train up north, and i pulled out some reading material, "essays in existentialism" by sartre, when the dude next to me starts staring at me and my book. then he says, "so you're into philosophy, eh?"

we started talking (well, he did most of the talking) about eastern philosophy, and then he gave me his phone number. i've never been given a phone number by some random guy before, so it was a little strange.

I was the same when I got my 2003 VW Golf. All nervous coming home and stuff. My brother saw me pull into our drive way and was like 'Who the hell?'.

Now I need to get a 440$ windshield replacement because of three cracks I have on my current one (got one on Haloween while I was at home giving out candy; my car was parked in front of my house the whole time >_:D

I'm a little young for my own car (insurance is too expensive for someone 16, even with driver's education and good grades) but when my father got a new car (2004 Intrepid) and had me drive it, I was freaking out. It was one of those "do something wrong and I will kill you" moments... good times. Now, driving it is routine.

CONGRATS!!!

send me a car...er...hard drive!

@dreamz: Enjoy your new toy, mate. :P Don't neglect your gf though. LOL...

@unbe: I knew you had something up your sleeves! :o

just a month ago i rode a car for the first time at age 15. pretty good, except the only experience was through racing games on the computer, which is totally diffrent from real life driving so i pressed down the gas, (i didn't know it was so sensitive) and it ran at it's highest speed. i didn't really know how to steer properlly so it went up a hill and crashed into a tree. thank God that it wasen't damaged.

my lesson? press the gas slowley and start to pace up. NEVER press the gas fully down and you have to get a driver's licence if you want to drive.

be careful out there. never drink and never sleep when you drive. even if you meet the requirements there is still risk of crashing into a tree

I remember when I bought my BMW Z3 4 years ago, I was so happy that I forgot to put some gas in it...

I was driving on a desert road without any filling station on it...

Fortunately, I manage to drive and to run out of petrol just 20 meters before a filling station. That was so funny..

#236131

Congrats on the new car! I got my 2001 Jeep TJ, about 4 months ago, I can't wait till the summer, I can pop out the roof and go cruis'n

#236170

what the... 1.9% rate? what's your fico score?! that's pretty crazy.

#236269

all these crazy stories! :D

nomis_nehc: yeah, 1.9. i was surprised myself. i just graduated and only started using my credit card for about a month and a half, and yet i managed to get 1.9% through toyota. it's probably some special financing program with toyota because, although i have good credit, i don't have enough to get a low rate.

#236385

Sweet, I am almost 17 and am car-less. You gotta drive me places now!

#236464

haha my first car owns any here, a 97 bmw 3 series with 2.5 litter injection. im so going to crash it soon, i can feel it. lol

Congrats on the new ride... Toyota's are awesome.

My first "new" car was a 97 eclipse, I was 26 at the time. I still have it too, can't seem to part with her.

My actual first car I got was when I was 17, it was a 1974 Pinto station wagon. Bought it for $100 cash. Don't laugh... it got me from point A to point B and back again.

BTW... that 1.9% rate you got is a special Toyota is doing right now. For recent graduates and such.

They were doing something like that in 2002 when I bought my Highlander (family car, something safe to drive the kid in).

I got 2.9% for 60 months. Not bad for a $32,000.00 ride.

Enjoy it... btw... you'll feel better after the first scratch is on it. Until then it's pure stress. I used to park my Elipse so far away from any other car that I should have just left it at home.

#236479

ahh, i see. which bank? my score isn't bad, but i got totally ripped off. 10.9% =( and my fico score is above the 670 mark.

#236603

Once your fico gets around 700 - 720 range, that's when you start to get the really good interest rates. And you can usualy get a better interest rate by financing through the manufacturer, (GMAC, FMC, Toyota Motor Credit, etc.).

Most banks just can't compete with them.
