[Help] Menu Bar Problem

Hey All,

I guess I'm new to the Aqua-Soft community, so I'll use this as my introduction post as well, my names Morgan, I'm a 14 year old Freshman in High School, and I live in Connecticut, USA.

Yesterday I was searching all over the place for a registry or DLL hack to get rid of the File/Edit/View etc. buttons in Windows Explorer, a friend of mine pointed me here. I looked around and the first thing I found was this post: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....ghlight=reghack

I downloaded flyakite's MenuBar.zip, and applied the registry file, thinking it would get rid of just the File/Edit/View etc. section like the post said, but instead, it got rid of the entire thing, (File/Edit/View etc. section plus all of the other options, so all I have left is the title of the folder/file I am viewing). So I thought ok, no big deal, I'll just apply the registry file to disable the settings, but when I did so, it did not change anything. I tried again just in case some type of bug happened the first time, but same thing happened, (I did remember to restart, thats not the case).

I saw in that post that mntnbkr1065 had the same problem, and fixed it by deleting certain files in the registry, so I have been trying so hard to contact him the last day or two, because this is driving me crazy. I'm not having much luck, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not a patient person, so I am asking for your help. What can I delete in the registry to reset the default settings, and make my problem go away.

I found this tutorial: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=3020 not much longer, which is a real bummer. So I'm begging you guys to please help me out with my problem, I'd really like to get it fixed.

Sorry about the detailed post, I just don't want to leave anything out so I can have my problem fixed, and so that I don't have to answer any further questions. Thanks in advance for any help you may give me, and for reading the entire post!

Did you try Control Panel > Folder Preferences > 'View' tab > 'Reset all folders' button? It might help.

Thanks for the help but no luck. That only resets the way you viewed specific folders (tiles, list, etc.), not menu bars. And yea I'll try PMing and E-mailing flyakite, thanks nightcrawler.

First of all the registry tweak does NOT permanently get rid of everything else. If for some reason it got rid of your address bar and standard toolbar buttons, you should just be able to right-click where they used to be and re-enable them. (Right-Click -> Standard Buttons and Right-Click -> Address Bar).

As for restoring it, after restart it doesn't automatically show itself but they are re-enabled. All you have to do is re-enable or turn-off turn on something like the standard buttons or address bar. So basically if you've used the restore file and they haven't re-appeared, turn on or off doesn't matter, something in that area. Turn on or off the standard buttons or the address bar. The File, Edit, View stuff should re-appear. Then just turn back on whatever you turned off and all will be okay.

Yup, I knew I could do all of that. The thing is when I re-enable something like that, right when I open back up explorer, I have to do it again. It turns into a pain in the butt. And, I would really like it to be back to the way it was, when I didn't have to do that.

I know there is a registry file that can be deleted like mntnbkr1065 said in the other post, and that he would help anyone who needed it. I PMed him, but haven't gotten an answer, has he been around lately?

Hello Osiris0290, the solution to unhide the menu bar is as easy as you can't believe. Just right click on the tool bar and hide the address bar, then the menu bar is appear again! :cool:

Please download the attached file. It is a .zip containing two registry tweaks - one to remove all four of the standard toolbars: menu, address, standard buttons and links. The other restores them. Backup your registry before you do this so that you can always restore in case anything goes wrong.

i was about to post that. to undo, toggle something like the address bar or standard buttons. that should fix it.
