[questions] Windows 2003 Server

Hey peeps.

Im thinking about switching to windows 2003 server from

xp pro, but I need to know some things. First of all, does

flyakite v6.5 work with it ? Also, do all apps for windows

xp work on 2003 ? I heard its verry customizable. Also, is

it actually any more stable / fast than previouse versions

of windows ?

Thanks,

Gabriel.

aaaalright

1) no. flyakite 6.5 doesn't work with 2003. it's a different OS.

2) 95% of them do work on 2003. i've had no problems with regular apps. just some apps don't like to be installed on server system. but that's their manufacturer imposing crap on us.

3) It's as much customizable as XP.

4) It's a tad bit more stable than XP and for me it's faster.

THOUGH I wouldn't recommend you switching. Not unless you have server-specific stuff you'd like to run. But besides that, it all runs great. But if you don't have the NEED for 2003, then stick to XP.

Windows Server 2003 is not more or less stable then Windows XP.

Both operating systems have essentially the same kernel.

If you are experiencing instability with either OS, its most likely due to bad hardware, bad drivers, or a poorly coded application.

The only reason to switch to Server 2003 is if your actually running a server, or if you need to develop web/applications that need to run on a server. Otherwise your better off with Windows XP.

It just doesnt make sense to install server 2003, then spend an hour just to make it run like XP again.

This is a case of 'the latest and greatest, not always the greatest'.

I have it installed currently and it runs perfect. As menge said flyakite doesnt dork with it. And many of the applications dont even consider it to be xp. But after installation it takes about maybe like 30 minutes to get everything set up and running. But it runs much much faster then the regular xp. mostly because there are no styles screen savers or any of that diplay stuff included. Also if you have more then one account, its a pain in the "rear" to be switching from one account to the other and misc, because it just isnt meant to be used like a regular pc. i would suggest you try it only if your pc is currently running slow when all the themes bars and widgets are turned on, but if your pc is fast (atleast 2.5ghz) then i would suggest you stay with pro.

I got 2.4 Ghrz, and my OS isnt really slow, I just was wondering if 2003

was better than xp. Since flyakite doesnt work with it Im not gonna install

it anyway lol.

dax-, 2003 is a bit more stable since it's required for mission critical stuff. it's been more tested :) i'm not saying xp is unstable. just that 2003 is for sure at least a tad bit more.

hobbes, your os might be slow cause of an old install date. just format and reinstall xp. it'll run great again. just next time be more selective with the amount of apps you install :)
