Hmm thats the last time I use the forum to shrink down areas, as I completely missed all this going on!
First off - great idea
Second - iSnaps is a good name
Third - I'm really liking the design, clean, clear and not too understated, but will allow the images to do the talking.
One thing I did think about was - how are you going to moderate the site? Do people just upload what they want, and let users report 'suspect' or offensive images or have some sort of screening process.... sorry if this is a bit of a funny question, just thinking ahead......
At some point you could link this into some sort of Imagebank kind thang?

lol who cares who has power on a image upload site. if you really wanna help the guy out thats one thing, but power-hungry mods are NOT the best thing.
OK then guys, let's chill things out a little. This is just a concept at the moment, and the building work hasn't even begun on the site yet - It's going to be at least a couple of months until it's anywhere near the stage of choosing moderators. Consider your applications noted down though.
OK, so we've got the name, the basic site design and some ideas. I agree that moderating the images uploaded would be a good idea, but I don't think I would have time to do this in 'real time'. It would be better to have the ability to, at the end of a day, look back at any new uploads and delete any which seem unappropriate.
The final step really is to decide how this service will be priced. I think the best way to do it is as follows:
100 Photos - Free
400 Photos - £2.99/Month
1000 Photos - £6.99/Month
2500 Photos - £13.99/Month
Those payments would be made in advance, probably on a yearly basis? - Could I have people's opinions on these - Do you think they are reasonably priced? - Bear in mind I only have so much space on my server, and bandwidth is also a consideration.
you wouldnt have to check them in 'real-time' so to say, but have all uploaded images sent to a pool of unchecked. perhaps make a system where you can login and have a little control panel to accept or reject the images in the pool, so all mods could just work at it at their own pace. but of course its up to you, it depends how popular it gets i guess. keep on goin

If those prices seem likely to cover your server costs, then I'd say they were pretty reasonable.
The use of the word photo is too vauge - there will obviously have to be some restriction, either capped file size or dimensions, so perhaps you could say 100 photos or 20 meg space, 400 photos or 50 meg space. this would be more helpfull as some people may have a few high-res images they want online, where as others may want lots of small gifs and jpgs hosted. This could then be incorporated into an Hotmail type of % bar showing how much room they have left.
Great idea. Maybe different free plans to choose from, depending on the needs of the user (hi-res/lo-res, etc..)
I think I'll do it based on diskspace, and give an estimate of how many photos can be stored in that amount of space. What would you say on average - 1 meg per photo?

Make sure users can make their own groups/albums. Also that you can hide pictures from the general public/password protect them. Smart albums would be cool too, not too hard to implement either now I come to think about it.
Yes - You will be able to choose whether a gallery is public or private - and assign a codeword to send to family and friends.
Could you expand on what you mean by Smart Albums?
I think it should limit based on size not photos. I mean i could have 100 photos at 4000x3000 each about 30MB each.
25MB - Free
100MB - 2.99
250MB - 5.99
625MB - 9.99
They shouldn't be that much more expensive than regular hosting b/c they are getting less storage (but organized albums and unlimited bandwidth).
Thanks for that suggestion. Thankfully, server costs will allow me to offer considerably more space than that for the same price - You can view the basic space/cost ratio at the compare packages page on our hosting website (http://www.zonenetwork.co.uk/index.php?pag...ackages_compare). That will be the basic ratio to be used.
I might have to consider limiting bandwidth, or at least creating a fair use policy to ensure that noone abuses the system. At the end of the day, it will be for showing photos to family and friends, not for hot linking images to other webpages/forums

By smart albums I mean an album which contains images based on certain criteria. For example: I want all my images from last month rated 5* in an album called "recent".
The site then selects all my images where the date is greater than and are rated 5*. Then, if I rate a new photo highly, it automatically gets selected when someone opens the album. D'you see what I'm attempting to explain very poorly here?
