[help] Need a webdesigner (?)

Hi guys,

I know this is a kind of wierd request, I dont even know if its allowed,

if not then just remove this thread.

Heres my problem.

Ive been wanting to buy myself an ibook 12, (as over halve of the

registered forum members already know probably) for a loooong time,

and it costs 949 at amazon, however, I am completely broke. I have

a total of $75 in my pocket now and I dont have that much verry

often. Obviously, if I want to get myself an ibook Im gonna have to

find some kind of a way to make money. Even aside from the ibook,

I need some kind of source of money that I can rely on. Ive looked at

many money-making programs on the web including a bunch of

affiliate plans and ad-sense etc. I think the only way I could make

any seriouse money is in design and graphics stuff. My problem is that

I have verry little coding skills, and therefore my ideal situation would

be to find someone who does have coding skills, and works selling web

pages, and would be willing to work with me giving me all the graphics

related work and do the code himself, and then paying me some

percent of what we earn.

Is there anyone here who would be willing to work like this with me ?

I have lots of free time so I would almost always be able

to work on something, except when Im doing schoolwork or

something like that. If you wanna help then just add me to

msn. Im getting my bank account on monday and then Ill get

myself paypal, unless someone has any better suggestions.

Mucho thankx in advance,

Gabriel.

P.S.

I really dont need verry much.

What are you asking for [in short line please]?

#233783

I need someone that works selling websites and is willing to let me do all the

design stuff and do the code himself, and then pay me a percent of what the

website gets sold for.

Maybe this sounds absolutly stupid, I dont know.

If thats the case then Im probably wasting my time.

#233792

If you want I could code the stuff you want to sell. (of course pay me 5-10 bux :P)

#233800

He's a designer, he needs a coder.

That's what he is saying. They'll work together, and split money they make.

Can't help you there, sorry. :)

@ Pwnzrzpat : That would be verry cool, what languages can you code in ?

Another problem for me is marketing. I think I could do it If I knew more about

it but I dont so I cant. :S How exactly does one go about selling webpages

over the net ? You pay with paypal ? Do you give your customer the files

before you get the money or vice versa ? I just really dont know alot about it.

#233913

Just my two cents:

It'll be hard to make some the amount of money you're seeking mainly because the market is saturated with tons of webdesigners, many of which charge more/less that what you're planning to charge. A more feasible way would be to sell some stuff on ebay that you don't need anymore, you'll be amazed what kind of stuff people want/buy on ebay, plus it's pure profit (except for fees/shipping), no need to pay for a coder.

If you do set out to make website, marketing will be a big plus, you'll have to get yourself out there by listing yourself on search engines or by putting your banner/link on other people's websites offering your service. Be sure to offer something distinctive, that sets you apart from all the rest, but more importantly make sure you're not in over your head...it would suck if someone paid you then you couldn't complete the job. I would recommend Paypal, due to your location etc, as for the file issue, thats between you and your client, you could always do a half no, half upon completion type of scheme.

Mu being sardonic: Good luck though

xHTML & CSS, sorry no fancy pansie PHP, ASP, or JS.

If you need serious money, you need to do real work. Considering the fact that you are 14 (?) years old, I don't think any serious webdeveloper would outsource the design part to you, mainly because you lack experience and cant guarantee worktimes.

Get a job like delivering groceries for old ladies ;) : makes you more money probably.

(also what mubach says)

#233929

what ave says.

sheesh, punkass kids wanna rule the world from their damned bedroom ;p

#233931

I was kind of expecting someone to say something like this. Thats also one of

my main problems. No ones gonna take me seriously because of my age. About

the worktime, its like I said. Im almost always in front of my PC, except for

when Im doing schoolwork, and that doesnt take me verry long anyway.

@ Mubach : For there to be any point in listing myself on google or any other search

engine I would need a professional site to sell my stuff, written in ASP and PHP, so

that there could be one of those stoopid shopping cart things and the whole process

of selling something would be completely automated, all I would do would be to market

my website, exchange links, etc.

About selling stuff on ebay, well, I really dont have anything right now that I dont

need, and anyway this still wont be a constant source of earnings that I can rely on.

Gabriel.

man, keep working on your skills, you're getting better all the time. just practice and play around. worry about work later and mooch off your parents a few more years. and for the love of god, you're 14, so if you're not crippled or scarred from an acid attack, get out of the damned house more. ;)

#234061

Yeah, I know. Im trying to get out more but Im still not getting any closer to

getting my ibook and "wait a few years" isnt really gonna work.

Does anyone know if there is some forum / message board just for selling webpages

and graphics ? I looked around on ebay for icons and webpages and all i got was

a bunch of websites for porn and thats all. I dont really think that if someone was

going to buy a website they would be looking on ebay.

#234070

Oh great, I just got my bank account and now I see that Poland isnt on paypals

list of countries. :( Does anyone know what I could do now ? Is there some other

service such as paypal that supports Poland ?

Hey; I resent that statement!

There is a saying in mexico that says: "A quien le quede el saco que se lo ponga"

It basically means, if the suit fits you, wear it :P. Which obviously auto implies, if it doesnt, dont wear it, it isnt for you...

#234429

Seriously, the paid jobs I got when I was below 18:

- lawn mowing - about $2/h

- gardening - $3/h

- collecting bottles/cans $0.01 each

- car wash - $5 each

And I was a C64 assembler coder at 16!

At 18, nobody would pay me as much for programming as I would make driving a cab...

Get yourself a bag-packing job or larder-filling job at a supermarket for about 10 to 20 hours per week (to be done when not in school) and within a few months you'll have your iBook plus a free basic training for honorable manual labor - kids can't stir a tea these days if no friggin' keyboard is attached to it so you'd have an advance over them...

Damm straight, I keep trying on suits and finding out they don't fit, so I change my major. But serioulsy find something realistic to do, just because I know how to change the contrast of an image in photoshop doesn't mean I'll market myself as a Photoshop pro charging 100dollars per hour...people would laugh in your face. At your age it's better to get a job from a friend/family person that owns a business, save up your Slotis, then buy your ibook....

I had to suffer with PCs for ages, and saved every dollar that I had, after two years of saving, I finally got enough to buy my iMac G5 a couple of days ago (still in transit from Shanghai <.<). If you're determined, you'll eventually get your mac, dreams come true-if you work hard for them. Same thing goes for anything in life, like owning a kick-ass camera or getting a job etc etc.

(LOL seph, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a mexican saying, ese dicho me lo desia mi abuelita)

#234434

man, this is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time...

but yeah Hobbes, what others said. Getting a job in some local supermarket is much easier and much more feasible than trying to convince people to hand over their websites to you so you could design them etc.

Working is not a bad habbit, it brings you money, but it also gets you to be ready for what's to come in the future. Don't think that working in a supermarket (or anywhere else) isn't in your leage just because you know how to design stuff. You're still young and doing what most of the kids do to get their money is not embarrassing or whatever.

Go out more and look for signs in shops and whatnot that hire people. You may not become store manager in your first week, but you will have a steady income and you will get your iBook soon.

Youd be surprised.

Doesnt anyone have any suggestions as to what I might be able to

use in the way of paypal ?

Im NOT going to go out and start picking up tin cans. Dont even

bother to suggest it.

@ herd : I got a dood to pay me $7 / h for picking up freaking leaves

but now I dont live anywhere near him so I cant go work there anymore.

lol, staying inside for then entire day in front of a moniter?

I made some cash not in web designing but in tutoring other kids how to make websites. There was this class in my school called web designing and some students needed some extra pointers since what they were only teaching the basics in school. Me, being the nice person I am, came along and showed them some stuff for a small fee. Once a week in the computer lab for half a semester. :)

If you're exceptionally good at graphic designing maybe you could try to do that in your school?

#234974

no, thats definatly not going to work. I dont go to any public school here so yeah

#235024

I made $20 an hour tutoring kids in SAT/ACT math. You could do something similar...

#236016

i have to agree with everyone else here, go out and find a job, be happy you can too, i cant even get a job, im only 13, you need to be 14 for working paper in the US ;) ... but anyway, what moo said was right, theres way too many people doing this, what can you doo that they cant. i say get a tangible job, and pick up a book on css and/or php...

anyway, good luck with all this and gettin an ibook (i say write a report on how an ibook can benifit your education et cetera)

#236040

Forget webdesign as a means of revenue. Seriously everyone has a pc nowdays and thinks they are a design master - which makes my job harder.

The best suggestion I can think is to start honing your design skills and make some kick ass icons/walls/ even apps for the community - then set up a donate page and let people give you money that way.... I'm not saying you'll have your iBook in a week, but it will contribute.

Another option is these affilate schemes, where you sell other peoples stuff for a comission.

But seriously forget web design......
