IBM Sells Business

Twenty-four years ago, IBM entered the PC business and ever since, been growing. Recently, IBM has put up a price tag for their company, for as much as $2 billion. What does this mean for me and my school?

Some of you may know, especially the ones who do go to my school, that CBC High School runs entirely on IBM laptops. Teachers use the R40, Sophomores-Seniors use the T40, and the Freshman, T41. With over 1000 IBM laptops in the school full of boys, something is bound to go wrong. We have the IT HelpDesk which can assist you and repair your laptop if broken. But if IBM sells their business, what support do we have? Who do we send the parts back in exchange for new ones? Who do we turn to? No one knows now.

This could be the opportune moment to introduce Apple iBooks into my school. Imagine an entire high school running on Mac OS X with all iBooks. This could be very different.

From black IBM notebooks to white Apple iBooks, this school could very well swing around and perform a very large “Switch.”

IBM basically only catered to the business (and educational, but apple has the market share in that) sector anyways, if they wanted to make a bigger impact they would have taken the time to design their product line more to a customer's liking. The design they have now is too industrial in my opinion. They're solid laptops, but a bit over priced for what they offer. All that aside, I am somewhat sad to see their computer business being sold, IBM is synonimous with computers, and even though they'll still work on software/hardware etc, its still sad. Oh well....I hope you get your ibook lou

...sux, it'd be awesome if my school got new iBooks too, but I go to a public school that wastes their money on turf and a stadium for the football team when it sux more than hockey, we should get an ice arena and hook up the computerlab with brand new macs. The only place with Macs in my school is the Music Technology room where we've all got G4s and the teacher has a G5 and a bunch of other crap hooked to it. Well, maybe in 2 years when I'm in college I can get a nice powerbook...
