[question] What finder do you use?

Hi guys!

There are many finder clones available down here. Xplore, BZfinder, Looca 1.7, Looca 1.99, iFinder 2.0, Nexplorer 1.90, Felix 8 and probably many other.

I was wondering which clone do you use, and which one do you think is the best one either in terms of performance, or just in terms of ability to mimic Mac OSX.

At the moment I am swithcing between Looca 1.9 and Bzfinder.

Also I have a question for those of you who use Looca. Don't you think that Looca 1.7 runs faster than the last release, Locca 1.9?

there are many, many, and many threads like this already posted. all that lead to flaming. just to let you know.

for me, i'm torn apart by nexplorer, or original explorer.exe from stupid microsoft.

i don't know anything about the other programs but i did test them and found them hard to use. in terms of functionality.

I would agree... I still like my MS explorer.exe. I've tried Nexplorer and Looca (both versions) but they simply take too much to set up to be worthwhile and they're not as lightning quick. WindowBlinds skins explorer quite nicely with its taskbar thingie.

My purpose is not to lead people to flaming, my purpose is to have the opinion of the other people aroud here.

If people are stupid enough to start flaming, they should not come here and they should rather try to prevent themselves from posting.

I for one think all the finders here are great, all the developers have made great job. However, some finders may be bether in terms of performance, some other may be better in terms of looking, some other better in terms of features.

I am not asking for people to criticize the developpers' work, I just want to know what finder people are using and why. I am just curious to know.

I don't see where is the problem and I think my question is totally legitimate.

I used to use nexplorer as my default... And it is by far the closest thing to the real finder. The only problem is that sometimes with big folders or lots of items on screen the program would lag. I still use nexplorer sometimes for its awesome search feature and a few other great things.

For me now... I am using Looca 1.99 and I love it. It is fast, responsive and uses almost no resources. It is easy to skin and plays nice with all windows programs. I have it loaded to start when I turn on my computer and I rarely close it.

Just my two cents.

i'm just kinda paranoid after the shutdown of the site because of constant flaming before. ah nevermind. i'm currently using exploer.exe for now just for the ease of performance. looca was ok, but i forgot the reason why i stopped using it.

I have tried all the finders,

*Nexplorer

*Bzfinder (2- i think?)

* Xplore

* Felix 8 (and felix 7)

* Looca 1.99

* Ifiler

* and probably any that I have missed...

But they all thier ups and downs, there is no ultimate. Windows Explorer is still the best finder for PC...Try modding it by using Kabal's Finder bar, Yz toolbar and try just simplifying Explorer by taking out the address bar etc- (in folder options).

( these really do rock and you can get them to automatically open with Explorer)for appearance. But at the moment im after a search bar like in finder...any ideas?

Hi,

I used these instructions, but I updated this for Panther/Tiger Finder layout. For this I used together with Kaball Finderbar. This is all I could do. Is not perfect, because I cannot get rid for a 'Finderbar' explorerbar title (see the screenshot). Now I used Looka 1.99.

The 2 cons I have for Looka are:

1 - Cannot set more than 2 harddrives and 1 CD-drive

2 - Looka have troubles in opening folders that thier labels has more than 1 word (e.g. Documents and Settings are too difficult to open). But all is now.
