[release] Liquid Metal

I was bored the other day so I whipped out GIMP and fooled around.

I ended up with something that I think is pretty neat.

I'm still new to making wallpapers so any comments would be nice.

Oh, and the full image looks better than the thumbnail.

I like it. Thanks for sharing.

I love the sketch-like effect on the outer rim. Simply amazing. However, I feel it's a little too "liquidy" on the inside with all of the white. Definitely downloading it though.

Thanks!

Superb wall, can you tell me how did you do it in Gimp? Is there a special plugin for fractals or is it a built-in Gimp feature?

Dunno if it makes a difference but I'm using the latest (non-stable)

release of GIMP. The effect "Flame" is in the stable release too,

I think it works a little differently though.

Anyways, here's how I did it.

1. Filters>Render>Nature>Flame

(Make sure to render on a transp. BG)

2. Hit "Edit" and the controls for editing are a bit

weird but you can figure them out by fiddling.

3. Once you got the flame you want, you can

adjust colours, contrast, placement, etc.

4. After rendering, I copied the flame

5. On the lower copy I applied

Script-Fu>Alpha to Logo>Glowing Hot

6. Then I messed around with colours and layer

modes. I also did some other blurs and stuff

I can't quite remember, but you get the gist.

Oh yeah. Rendering the flame can take quite a while

depending on how large it is and how fast your comp is.
