Motherboard Problem - PC Won't Boot

I purchased a ASUS K8V-X from eBuyer.co.uk last week, and have put together my own system. The graphics card is an XFX GeForce FX5200 256MB DDR. For some reason, when powering on the computer the fan/processor kicks in (as do the various lights etc), but nothing is output to the monitor. I know the graphics card works, as I have tested it in another PC.

Also, the CD-ROM in the box won't open when connected to the motherboard and powered on, but it opens fine when the IDE cable is not connected to the back (i.e, just power going to it). I've also tried a different power supply in the system to no avail.

Would you think this suggests that the motherboard is damaged and I should ask for it replaced, or do you think this is an issue with something else.

Lol - Just looked at the box which the motherboard was transported in, and there's a big hole in the bottom - It looks as though it's been smacked with a large metal pole of some sort....

I've asked for a replacement from eBuyer, so I guess I should get a reply from them soon.

Oh man, thats horrible :S The kind of symtoms you described almost always

happen when you connect your cables in the wrong direction or theres something

wrong with the memory. Try just taking everything apart and putting it back

together again making sure to get everything in its right place

Can you see the black screen at the start with various system info or is it just blank the whole time? If so, press DEL at startup and you can access the bios. Somwhere in the BIOS there should be an option to choose which display device is initialized first. That card sounds like an AGP (or PCI?) so if it isn't on the correct type of slot the graphics card fits into, change it so it is.

I'm afraid it's blank the whole time, and pressing Del doesn't have any effect. I'm sending the motherboard back to eBuyer for a replacement, but it takes 10 days

The poor guy I'm building it for won't be happy!

I have the same motherboard and i had the same problem. On the motherboard there are 2 power points, have you coupled both of them up? Theres the 4 pin square plug and the normal rectangle one, plus the power supply for 64 bit processors should be about 400watts, or it will blow.

The power supply did blow early on - It was (I think) a cheap 500w one. I've replaced that.

Since found out that the problem was a couple of pins snapped off the processor. Doh!

I replaced that, but now the motherboard is showing a different problem, not recognising CD or DVD drives. I've sent it back for a replacement again. It's a nightmare!
