[Request] Help Please!, screwed up .theme files

Hi All*,

This is my first time posting, although I have been a member for quite a while now.

I really hope that I am posting this in the correct forum. I have a problem with my PC. I have Windows XP, SP2. Somehow, only God knows how I did it, I lost the file titled "My Favorote Theme.theme" in my Display Properties window.

I use WindowBlinds, but I often covert Visual Styles to WB format, which is where I believe the problem began. (not sure?)

I have tried just creating the file myself, and then, when asked "Save theme as", and I select the file I created, it just disappears when I try to save it.

I am Praying that I will not have to do a clean install! I've been there, done that a few too many times this past year. lol

what are you trying to do exactly?

you do realize a .theme is not a "theme" right? you do know that a visual style (.msstyles) is applied in the appearance tab of the display properties, and that a "theme" is just msstyles + icons, wallpaper, settings, etc.

if you can be more clear about what you're trying to achieve, we can help you.

OK, Sorry. Yes, I do know what the "theme" is. See, I use windowblinds and iconpackager, when I'm all finished setting it all up, I go into the main display page, click "save as: My Favorite Theme.theme", it asks if I want to over-write the file, I click yes, and it saves my entire theme. Somehow though, I lost the original "My Fav Theme.them file", so there is no way to save it completely.

Does that make a bit more sense? And is there any way to work around it and create a new one that will stay?

Don't know if this is a worthwhile post, but I've always had problems with my .theme files. In fact, they don't even save .

Not the most helpful of replies, but maybe you should abandon the idea completely.

why not just save it as something else? like "new theme.theme" or something like that.

i agree nightcrawler, theme files suck. i never save as theme files, so i always tweak my styles in the display properties to get things looking perfect.

Thanks for the replies all, the problem is, the "Myy Favorite Theme.theme" file is like the default theme, so, sfter spending way too much time setting up all my icons, the theme, and wallpaper, it shows up on the control panel as "modified theme"; which would be fine as long as I do not have to ever hit the "apply" button as it will return the entire gui back to the system default.

Maybe this makes it all a bit more clear? Or no...

This is so frustrating! :-(
