Aqua-Soft ForumsI've had issues with the quality of playback in both iTunes and Quicktime, no matter how many times I reinstall and no matter what version I use. Whether I'm trying to play the music files on my HD or stream a video, everything skips, stutters, and sputters but if I play the files in winamp or such, everything's smooth as can be. Can someone help me please? Thanks!

From the positioning of your thread, i am assuming you are a macintosh user?
As far as i know, Quicktime and iTunes are both Cross Platform software.

He said that he tried Winamp and it's OK. Winamp I think is only on Windows (and Linux? I haven't used it in a while).
Do you have Sound Check and/or Sound Enhancer on? Go to Edit -> Preferences and the Audio tab (iTunes). Disable those two items. Hopefully that was the problem.
I assumed that he was on windows, hence the comment, actually... It was more of a rhetorical question 
PS: There is winamp for mac, i installed it once... cra-haaapy---hyyy
iTunes has never played songs properly for me... or at best, I've had to close absolutely every other program, save maybe AIM, in order for it not to stutter. I stick with Winamp 2.91.
Yeah, duh, I don't know why I posted in the Mac forum. My mind's been a bit of a muck lately so maybe I posted there because they're apple-made products.
But to stay on topic - I have both Sound Check and Sound Enhancer already disabled, so that didn't solve my problem. And also, that doesn't apply to Quicktime. Why would it be happening to both? It's very odd ... and frustrating, I might add.
Oh, and by the way, I'm a she 
I had the same problem before.
a tip from osx-e..
go to Quicktime Preferences -> SoundOut , and use "waveout" here. you can also add buffer here.

I had this problem (still do with Quicktime sometimes) with iTunes when listening to streaming radio - It only started working properly on my new PC!
Quicktime for me sometimes mis-matches the playback with the progress bar or plays back but freezes halfway through.
