[help] Wireless Connection between a Mac (AirPort) and a PC

I have a Mac G4 with Airport (not Extreme, just regular) and a PC with a Linksys 802.11g Wireless Adapter. I want to share files using Windows file sharing between the two computers, but I can't do anything to make the two machines connect. I can't find much info on this topic on the web, so I thought somebody here might know how to make this work.

Isn't Airport (non-extreme) 802.11b or something? Are b and g compatible?

G is backward compatible on B wireless networks, but you can buy a Linksys Wireless G router so you can sometimes switch the network to g to have a faster connection, use b+, or use b/g combined.

The way my friends and i do it is to create a network on the mac, and then have the windows computers join it... but as far as actual sharing, i dont know how to do that
