[help!]my computer doesn't know it has dx9.0c

well my pc doesn't know i have dx 9.0c and it complains with some progs about it not working. i always just hit continue anyway or something until... i installed entbloess 2. it needs 9.0c and even though i have it (dxdiag says so and the halo trial i just downloaded only crashes from my card being too old rather than from no dx9) and so i need some help. anyone up for the challenge? i tried reinstaling dx 9 btw and it skipped the installing screen and said it installed it.please help.

Unless you have a Nvidia 6 series, you don't have DX9.0C since C is DX9 with Shader Model 3.0, which ATi left out of their new cards. But if you do have A Nvidia 6 series, just install new drivers

I have no idea where you came up with that, but you don't have to have a specific graphics card to have DirectX 9.0C. DirectX isn't dependent on your video card.

Quote from the DirectX page:

"DirectX 9.0c improves the graphics, security, and performance of your operating system. Download and install this update for your Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP-based system."

I'm running an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and just ran dxdiag, and guess what it says? DirectX 9.0C.

And C isn't DX9 with ONLY Shader Model 3.0, it just means they've added support for it. If your card doesn't support 3.0, it's going to use 2.0.

Someone needs to get their info straight.

As for a solution, in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool did you check the DirectX Files tab and make sure everything was fine? Did you run the display tests? Did you check the More Help section and run the troubleshooters? Did you check google for something like "programs don't detect directx 9" etc.?

Reinstalling doesn't work?

I know there's an unoffical app that uninstalls DirectX.

I forgot the name, but Google for directX uninstaller and you should find it.

Then re-install.

Q: have you got sp2 installed yet? That also contains dx9c. Maybe installing the standalone version op sp2 could fix things, so you wouldn't have to re-install windows.

Hope this helps, good luck.

well thank you for all your help. i am in a state of computer hell in a way though. its pretty much fixed now and i have entbloess working good but i tried to repair my windows install and found my cd was scratched :o so i had a broken windows installation. i couldn't reinstall either. i was stuck with using ms windows whistler beta 2 (2433) for a bit because of this but i had my dad send me a copy of his i386 dir (the dir that was scratched) and i now have a working install. i am yet to reactivate but i am gonna wait until i install sp2. thx again for all your help. it didn't help but at least you all tried. ;)

EDIT: i forgot to say i was stuck with internet explorer since mozilla and firefox do not even load on xp beta 2. it has a nice bootscreen though. i'll see if i get to install it in vmware and if i do i'll send pix.
