I've recently acquired the MX Suite but I was wondering if it is worth making the switch. I currently use Photoshop 7.0. From looking at both programs, I love Fireworks' Toolbox (all of the brushes, vector pens, etc.) because there is little hidden on it. I like how you can move boxes around on Photoshop (such as the Layers Box) though...
Can anyone make any suggestions to either ease the switch, or why not to make it?

This is best suited to Cross Platform Software, as both Macromedia MX Suite and Photoshop are available on Windows and OSX.

Its very easy: use both.
Fireworks makes certain functions very easy and quick to do. Photoshop can do the same, but got a whole more. Depends a bit what type of graphics you do, and their complexity. If it's rather 'simplistic' and you don't need the layer styles of photoshop and such, then Fireworks might do the job. If you work in Flash, Fireworks are so well integrated (as most of Dreamweaver progs) so that you can even just copy and paste into flash while keeping transparency. Many pros for sure.
However, I stick to Photoshop CS.
I have both Flash Pro and Dreamweaver, but I have no use for them yet (only edit images, not webpages)... I tried making some Ads for school clubs and it is pretty easy on Fireworks (easier than Photoshop). On the other hand, icon-making was kinda evil on it (haven't read up on tutorials yet). Oh well... will just have to learn more about it.
If you can...use both. The more strings to your bow the better I've found...
Ok... my school just upgraded to Creative Suite Premium for Newspaper Club so I get a copy for [cough]school use[/cough]. Now I can use InDesign for pamphlets and stuff. If anything, I'll use MX from time to time, but I'll probably stick with CS. Thanks for the suggestions!
Personally... I like using both... because of the flexibility between both programs and the strengths that each program have on their own... it's good to switch pending on the project your working on.
I do most of my work through photoshop; when it comes to optimizing for web and all that format stuff... I work it through fireworks. It's good to have a handle on any graphics programs for your resume... so keep them both handy.. you never know if they'll land you the job of your dreams.

Photoshop has much more power over nice effects/control - where as Fireworks is much better for web integration. Use both if you can.
I have used fireworks since version 4 was released a few years ago. I love fireworks and do all of my graphical work with it. It's not as advanced as Photoshop, but the simple tasks are easier. It just tends to make the more advanced tasks a little more difficult.
I have never been happy with Fireworks MX. In fact, I sent it back for a refund (demanded a refund) due to the bug-ridden releases as of late. > Which is why I still use version 4. Maybe in the future ill try MX again, but I really prefer the simplicity of version 4 and the fact that it doesnt have 8 billion quirks to deal with.
Examples of things that irritated me :
Frequently saved PNG files with fireworks layer info would become corrupted upon closing the app, with no means to open them or restore layering information afterwards.
The 'tool' windows will appear/reappear at their leisure upon mimizing, restoring.
Scrollbars frequently dissappear.
...And this has been consistant over 3 different video cards and two different, and fresh, windows installations.
I love fireworks 4, but macromedia has really been producing some crap lately.
