I just finished "Down and Out in Paris And London" by George Orwell. I read "Burmese Days" Before that. I am also working my way through some more Kafka. Just got done "Metamorphosis". Very good.

I know what you mean, The librarians kept giving me dirty looks when I was getting out a book on Networking. They were all like: Your a Dork! (Well, thats what they were thinking)
WOW!!! I'm impressed... You guys read? I, personally, only read when required to for school, or when a new issue of PC World comes out 
BTW Anyone have any other good magazines i should check out?

no offense but the basis of metamorphosis was that he turned into a BUG! how does one turn into A BUG?!?!?! im just kidding ya, i'm not a big reader (i usually cant stay focused, really short attention span). my history teacher in high school loved hating metamorphosis...you heard me, lol. he would go on and on about "he turned into a bug! how the hell does that happen?!?"

Hehe, in fact I could not fall asleep, so I was a bit bored. But also I like people to recommend their readings. That's the way I have discovered many of good books. I had never read nothing from Geoge Orwell, but I would like to read "My spanish civil war". And I agree with with you, the metamorphosis is a very good book (and is not so large, about 100 pages). Have you read "The process"?

I'm not much of a reader, but I recently saw Metamorphosis in theater. The bug-man was perfect... as a bug, that is!

HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Danielewski
I used to read only magazines (at the expense of trees), then switched to online mags.
Then one day last year, I picked up "Revelation Space" by Alastair Reynolds, which is the only sci-fi book at that time that caught my attention. This space opera is a journey across time and space to redicover why a space-flight civilization was annihilated.
Now I'm reading "The Light of Other Days" by Arthur C. Clarke & Stephen Baxter, which is another good sci-fi book. This is about using wormhole technology to visit various real-life events in the past and maybe future (?)

My favourite sci-fi books are the Ender's saga (four books) by Orson Scott Card and Dune's saga (six books) by Frank Herbert.
"My Spanish Civil War"? Whos that by? Orwell wrote "Homage to Catalonia", which was about the spanish civil war, it was very good.
I read Metamorphosis for school, but Ive read "The Penal Colony" and some others for "fun".
I DO read Orwell in my spare time because its hilarious how Bush says some of the exact things the "evil" guys say in 1984.
By the way, I didnt mean that in a political way. 
People really dont read that much? Im shocked. 
My parents are all like "You should read, blah blah blah" and so on and so forth.
Well, I am reading the Catcher in the Rye right now..
And a while ago, I was reading The Chosen. Great book!
Catcher in the rye wasn't bad, it's got some crazy parts to it..

Trees are okay, but it's hard to show them emotion.

shhh....no politics. Sure, republicanism has the right idea (even though it was founded in hypocracy), but whats that have to do with books? We dont want this thread deleted as well. Its a jolly fine thread and it doesnt need politics mucking it up. So Im going to bring the thread to its extreme RIGHT NOW:

I did a google of "My Spanish Civil War" and Orwell, nothing came up. Oh well, maybe its a new book I have to read.
I found out that they are different books. The translation for "Homage to Catalonia" is "Homenaje a Cataluña" but I did not know that Cataluña was Catalonia in english, so I felt a little confused at first. Take a look at this spanish revolution literature. "Mi guerra cicil española" (My spanish civil war) is somewhere in the list.
PS: Yes, I live in Madrid.
Oh, "My Spanish Civil War" is a collection of essays and articles he wrote. I read "A collection of Essays" , because thats the only one ive found. Im going to Barnes and Noble tomorrow.

I don't comment on the crap other people read so don't comment on what I read if you don't like it. A book is a book whether it is politics or not. Perhaps you don't know that most of the "Classics" in literature have political themes in them that were controversial and so were presented as a separate story.
Obviously if Let Freedom Ring is hypocracy then the vast majority of the people are interested in hypocracy since it is a best seller.
I don't care who you hate, but I do care when you are trying to be insulting. One is stupidity the other plain bad manners and ignorance. 
Perhaps if you read it , you might learn something
