A Better Jaguar Font Request

One thing that I've noticed with all this aqua-izing of XP is that the one thing that no one really has nailed is the font. It's the dead giveaway everytime I look at someones desktop - the ones available for XP really don't even come close to the actual LucidaGrande font.

You'd think it'd be easier - but the two fonts for XP i know of - one that weird Adobe format and the other Truetype really don't look like the original all that much. I guess its something to do with the way OSX smooths the fonts, but XP now has its own font smoother, so you'd think it'd be easier to make it exact.

I have absouletely no knowlegde of creating fonts, but if someone could actual convert or create a close to perfect LucidaGrande font - it'd do this Mac wannabe community a world of good.

do you want Lucida Grande font? I have it on True Type, it is on my website on the files section:

http://i-cons.tk

http://icons.host.sk

It is a zip with many fonts ported. Hope it works for you, I converted it myself personally from OSX, and I think they are good.

Yeah i actually have your set - but LucidaGrande still really doesn't appear the same way it does in OSX. I'm guessing it really has more to do with the differences in the font shading between the two OS's, but it'd still be great to have a version that you couldn't tell the difference.

Thanks though ;)

you might want to try on Iceman website on the stuff and then fonts section, i dont have his new address since it changed. Can you show a pic where it comes the font you want to match?

#1964

Here is, I have a nice True Type Lucida Grande font:

http://200.52.85.20/~iceman/stuff/fonts/

BTW, I'll add some beautiful MMR_85 fonts very soon :)

#1967

I've tried his too. I mean just the standard LucidaGrande font that's the default in OS X - all the menus, the dock, everything. Just look at any of the screenshots at Apple's site.

And btw, Iceman's new site is here.

#1968

well, I dont get it, the font I have was personally ported by me from OSX, and it must be the same, maybe it is another font, are you totally sure it is lucida grande? Apple is using new fonts, post the specific image where you say it is lucida grande.

#1973

Here's some screenshots click here- pretty much every font in this picture is LucidaGrande - the same that you and Iceman have - but just the way Apple smooths it makes it look much different and much nicer than our Truetype versions - which is my request - that someone with font experience can create a version of this font that replicates its appereance in the real OSX.

I wont downlad such big pictures, but the conversion is made by a program I used from Duckies website. So I dont think anyone wants to make a manual conversion which can be harder. And maybe that isnt lucida grande, maybe it is another font.

#1985

I'm afraid that we're talking about the same font. I do have those screenshots and, if you see differences, isn't by the font itself, it's by the way that OS X render the fonts. Are you sure you have selected ClearType like te render type in Display properties? That's the closer thing you'll get.

Good luck.

PS: Hugo, who ported the Lucida Grande font that I have for download, do use Macromedia Fontographer to make it straight from OS X.

I guess it should be a OS X thing, or a windows Issue. Apple screenshot of myriad are different, check the new headings, and names on computers, it is Myriad, the new font apple uses. I have all the versions straight from Adobe Fontographer, and what it is shown in apple, differs from the myriad font I have, it has different spacing, and it is wide in some parts. I think apple renders the fonts or something.

#1993

Yeah I've got clear type and all that

It was just my *humble* request that someone attempt the conversion - I realize how hard it is but was just putting it out there in case any one very familiar with fonts stumbles on it. :)

Sorry, still doesn't look right. Thanks anyways ;)

You might also want to try the "cleartweak" program.. (google it). You can set the brightness and contrast of cleartype with that. I have mine set all the way up which looks good to me.

#2033

i dont think that might change physicaly the font rendering, jut light

#2042

Perhaps is the rendering but according to Macmerc thefont used mac stuff is

Apple Garamond and they change again for jaguar Myriad Pro Bold.

check the forum at Macmerc :o
