[Help] Shortcuts and applications have lost their shell opener!

hi,

i turned my computer on this morning and now any shortcut i click or any install file, or program file, it opens the "open with" box. i really need to get this fixed so if anyone could help that would be great. i am running windows xp SP2

Did you make any recent changes, or did it just start out of the blue? See if SystemRestore will help, and GoBack (if you have it).

If these don't work, I can walk you step-by-step through the fix, but it's easier to check these first.

lol well system restore doesnt work (never has :() and unfortunately i dont have goback, but i did clean my computer out of 14 additional files, the problem though is still happening even after a restart. any tips you have would be great.
